I have seen moose sign north of gillis lake. Found a shed there as well. So they are around. If your up there towards the end of october make sure to bring chains. I almost never got out of there once. sliding sideways doing 5kmh in 4 low going down hill is not a good feeling

If you are talking about Stoyoma Mountain....Yes that is probably too high....basically an alpine lake.

I've seen tonnes of sign around Debbie lake (by murray lake) but never seen any moose there.

But if you spend time at the base if that mountain or Lightning lake you should do well. Grew up in Merritt but spent most of my time 3-12,18,19 and 8-6.
Was picking up my deer at the butcher in Lower Nicola (2010) when guys from the coast were just trying to drop 2 bulls shot in the Spius Creek area....The condition of the two bulls are foder for a whole other thread....
Point is you should have no trouble if you are able to get in there for a little Recon in late september.
Good luck!
