Can anyone tell me the difference between regular 12 ga shotshells and magnum shells.
My buddy has an old remington that has 3" magnum shells stamped on the barrel.

2 3/4" (standard) 3" (magnum) Now superceded with the 3 1/2" magnum

A gun stamped with 3' mag will also accept 2 3/4" rounds but NOT 3 1/2"ers

The big difference between the shells besides their obvious lenght is the amount of shot. Just to let you know that the more shot isn't always better. In order to be able to put more shot in the shell something else has to give or there would be to much pressure in the barrel so the more shot that's in a shell the less powder is used. The slower the velocity of the shot = less energy.

There is also magnum loads in the 2 3/4 shells so don't let the words magnum fool you. Hope this helps.
