I had a member here take the time to pm me the other day, telling me that I shouldn't be taking dogs on a sheep hunt - they'll only chase animals, make noise barking all the time, and ruin a hunting trip. Figures they should not be allowed for mountain hunting :)

Here's a couple short video clips with my dog that I edited from some of last years hunts, shows a bit of my dogs behaviour around animals. You can see he's not too interested in chasing them off the mountain ;)

These two rams came strolling up on the ridge while I was laying down catching a nap/glassing.

Another one of some ewes, lambs, and young rams that walked past the tent -

You dont see it in this clip, but these sheep eventually walked right into us. Dog watched 'em for a minute and then went to sleep.

It takes all kinds BB. Different dogs for different folks.
A friend had Charlie a yellow lab on about 90 some odd sheep hunts while back pack guiding. Saved his bacon more than once.
I'd have one in a minute, but realize I can't commit the time to do it right.

I've done it, and know several others that do. Never had a problem. Make sure you have good "Boots" for the dogs, otherwise they could shred their feet.

Exactly Kirby!
I've taken my dog on many Goat hunts over the years.
A simple hand gesture from me will keep her at my side all day long no matter what the distraction.
I would however rarely agree to take someone elses dog on an important hunt.
Your Lab would be one of the exceptions.
