I spent a couple of days hunting for Sturgeon in the Columbia River. Stayed and fished out of Astoria.

Used a guide - Larry - (Martin's Big Fish) He was great and so was his boat. I can highly recommend him. There is a very successful fishery for these fish. Size must be between 41 inches and 54 inches. I was allowed one a day for a possession of two... we had a 6 footer jump and throw the hook...

Ooooeeeeeeeee...

Is that Sturgeon ever good eating! Better than halibut.

I just sliced it thin and lightly fried it in in some butter and lightly seasoned... just as I usually do our Halibut...

Now I wish we had more in the freezer ...

I always wondered what they tasted like cooked up. I've had it smoked and it was great, but had been told that was the only good way to eat them. Doesn't surprise me at all they would be good eating if done properly.

Might try and take one for the pan next time I'm up that way.

At Astoria it closes in July... I think you have to go to the Portland area after that...

Short seasons and small possession.

Sounds fun. I've only eaten Sturgeon once and it was good.
