Weekend with H47

I headed over to my favorite place on earth the beautiful east kootenays to visit the legend H47. Like always he was relaxing around our camp soaking in the wilderness and the enjoyment of being retired. With a smile on his face we shook hands, it was going to be a short 1 day visit for me as I had planned so we took the time to talk about life and of course hunting all day long around a good ol' campfire. My girlfriend and dog "Carl" were along on this adventure as well which was great and enjoyable. Roughly 4:30pm I decided to head out and go look for a black bear to end off my spring season with only a week left. Checking out some cut-blocks and just enjoying the green scenery we decided to head up to a different area for sight seeing and kill a bit of time until it got a little later for primetime bear hunting. Around 5:45pm coming down a steep road I notice a nice color phase black bear rush off the road...I grabbed my gun and walked down and into where the bear had scurried. Walking ever so quietly I snuck in where the bear had headed but was not seeing anything at all. Ready to head back to the truck to go look for another one a heavy footed sound came from the hill above me and across the road, there stood a mature colour phase boar feeding his way down towards me at only 55 yards. I took aim and fired hitting the bear hard in the shoulder...he spun and ran downhill before trying to make it back uphill which was not a great idea. Held up on the steep incline by a tree he took his final breathes. I gave the bear a few extra minutes and got my truck and gear before walking up on him. I rolled him down to level ground for pictures and dealt with him there before bringing him back to camp to show Wayner. Wayne was very thrilled to hear there was one less bear in the area...we took a couple more pics before chilling out around the fire for the last end of my day trip.

Thanks for all the NICE comments lol. So here is the situation as beautiful as this bear is and all and even know I skinned it out next to perfectly with paws and head still in I have decided not to get it rugged. I called my taxidermist today and he is not buying bear hides...I am located in Fruitvale BC next to Trail BC and am willing to sell for cheap to anyone that would like to have this as a rug. My freezer is pretty darn full and I just dont have the room for the rug in there or on my wall until I get my own place. The bear is a 6 footer and has a perfect hide with no rubs. If any of you know of anyone who would want this just send me a PM thanks.

Deeks what about getting it tanned for now? Could always get a rug done down the road. Tanning is a bit cheaper and then you could hang onto your bear. Heck of a nice color too.

Ive thought about it but I just got a nice blonde last week...majority of our bears are colour phases here so next year when Ive got my place I'll be selective and take another colour phase.

It was very nice seeing you Shaun and Stef been a long time from our last hunt that color bear is one of the nieces furs I have ever saw on a bear will make a very nice rug.

You have turned into a real bear slayer over the past few years your hard work has payed off congrats to you and Stef on getting this fantastic bear ,now when are we going to open up that old road so we can get to them big WT bucks ????.
