What is your forecast for this seasons grouse numbers ?
It's been a SLOW start to our spring and summer here in the lower mainland, but an average amount rainfall. Hope the lack of worm days hasn't hampered their success in survival. Grouse jerky, here we come.

I suspect with all the precipitation we've had, there should be lots of worms around. :-D

As for the grouse, I've seen decent numbers in regions 8 and 3 this spring and sure heard a lot of them thumping their wings during late May. Hopefully it will be a decent year for them.

from what i have been told because of all the rain the past two springs the eggs will have had a hard time hatching just what ive herd

I've been out in the lower mainland bear hunting the last month and every time I stopped at a clearcut I could hear them wump wump wumping away.

Unfortunately June has been cold and wet. The chicks are going to have a hard time surviving. Most will get pneumonia and die. It will probably be a shitty season.

I saw an adult grouse today, the first one I have seen in 2 months.I have seen no females with chicks this season, normally I have 3 or 4 hens with broods on my place each summer.I think this season will be like most, there will be pockets of birds in some areas but overall it will be slow. There was just too much rain this spring and early summer and it was unseasonably cold. The chicks have a very tough time getting through that. I saw a quail hen a couple days ago with 8 or so just hatched chicks. They were tiny. Hard to believe they are hatching this late in the summer.

Came back from Tyee lake on. Been atving there ...scouting the backroads for good grouse flocks. Only saw one grouse though... and he was one big plump of a bird. I sure hope this grouse season is going to be better than the last season.

Surprising around my place - didn't expect to see much after the wet spring, but am seeing plenty of grouse out now. Hopefully get one or two for the frying pan this year. Last year they were so thin I never bothered taking any.

^ Vanderhoof? I drove all of northern BC last month, only place I saw chickens was the cranberry road to new aiyansh. And I disagree with your sig. Size of turd is directly proportional to meanness of bear.

I was not an HBC member in 2009 when that thread started, so it was new to me just now.
It had me going! I was thinking "WTF? How come I dont know about this?"
Then I thought I better just jump to the last page.
Good gag!
