A good friend of mine went out to cut firewood on Saturday around 15 km west of Castlegar. Less than a km on the FSR he spots this grizzly chomping down on a young bull moose right on the side of the road. He sat back around 150 yards watching him with his spotting scope, kicking his ass for not having his camera. After watching for around 10 minutes he decides to drive up past the bear, he said the bear just moved up to the high side of the road and watched him drive by. He said it looked like the moose was very recently killed as only the guts/organs were eaten. Around 2 hours later, and a full load of firewood he's driving back down and sees the bear lying on a huge dirt mound on where he has buried the entire moose.

He wanted to head back up on Sunday with his camera but never had time, but did head up Monday after work. Here are some pics of the bear, she was still there acting very protective......you can also see the large dirt mound that it used to bury its dinner.

From what my friend could tell, he thought he could see the remains of both front quarters and the rib cage. He couldn't tell for sure whether the hinds were still buried. Pretty impressive though, a bear like that could devour over half a small bull moose (200-300lbs) in around 2 1/2 days.

Sorry about the picture size
