While returning from Merritt via the Coquihalla 3 days ago, I saw a doe near the Shylock overpass (a couple of miles up from Dewdney Creek, Carolyn Mines road) that I believe might have been a Whitetail doe. I've been hunting up that way for many years and have never seen anything but Muleys and Blacktail. I held back writing this thread thinking that people would think I was seeing things and a wee bit wacko but I'd like to hear from other hunter's on their ideas. I got a good 3 to 5 seconds broadside view of this deer and in my mind, it was a white tail doe... Anybody else out there ever seen a Whitey this side of the old Toll booth.....

There are a few whiteys in that area from what I've heard. Not a tonne, but certainly a population that we will likely see grow over the next few years!

I usually see quite a few whiteys up just past (merrit side) where the toll booth used to be. Actually in that area I probably see more whiteys then mulies. Never hunted the area, but they are there
i"ve seen 3 whitetail doe about 5 or 7km from the old toll booth towards merrit about 3 week ago,

Don't think you are crazy. I was up there last year before hunting season and wanted to do a little scouting. I saw this deer go into the bushes up ahead and stopped. Get out, walk a little bit and see some antlers. But they didn't look quite right. Then it dawned on me, they didn't fork. It was a white tail. I know what I saw. It makes sense, they are on all sides. Lots in merrit, boston bar, etc
never seen a whitetail around there but I have been seeing a lot of muley's around the summit along the fence

Thank you guy's. So I was right and not my old eyes playing tricks on me. I too have seen a few Whitey's on the Merritt side 20 km's or so past the toll booth but had never seen a White tail on the Hope side until now. A few more years might mean an open season on them..

As long as they don't crowd out the muleys or blackies they can hang out wherever they want

I saw one just past hope on the highway where the coquihalla and the crowsnest split. It was a doe, standing in between the north and south lanes.

I bumped into a WT doe and fawn up Sumas Mtn Abbotsford a few years ago. They are moving into new areas all the time.

Seen a doe and a buck whitetail just past the tollbooth on the weekend. Probably a little tuff to hunt since your so close to the coke. What is it again 500m?
