This guy sat in my freezer for awhile, didn't know if i wanted to commit to putting him on the wall. I'm glad i did, i feel the quality of the mount makes up for his lack of inches. I want to put him more in the center of that wall, but i am worried about the sunlight that would hit his backside from that window.......i'll figure something out.http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i363/Bigbullshitter/Elk007.jpg

You should get a smaller TV set. It would make the elk look bigger!

My dad and a good friend of mine were hiking up to the alpine the morning of opening day. We made it to the ridge line around half an hour after shooting light. The weather wasn`t cooperating with us as temperatures were rising quickly, and by around 10am we had only heard a couple bulls and they were back down in the thick draws. We hiked to the back end of the basin to have lunch, and from there we could here this bull from across the valley on the opposite ridge line. We decided we`d go after him on our evening hunt.

We were able to get our pickup pretty close to where we heard the bull. We waited for the sun to drop, then started slowly walking along the height of land trying to pick up his bugle. On our way we jumped a young Grizz......always fun. Kept trucking, then we heard the big guy giving er from just below us. Couple cow calls and he came thrashing. Had him broadside at around 100 yards. After we put him down, my buddy headed back to camp to get the boys, while i sat beside a huge gut pile in the dark knowing there was bear lurking......everything worked out.

Always a thrill reading a great elk story. Nice work.

Nerves of steel sitting by that Elk pile, couple guys from Kelowna many years ago weren't as fortunate...glad it all worked out for ya boys.

Nice bull, good looking mount. With walls like that it should have been a no brainer to mount him!

Very nice elk and an even better mount.

I have a set of elk horns in the garage I have been looking at for years and I wonder why I never packed out the cape. It grossed around 318" which isn't huge but is a respectable elk for the Peace Country. If I end up with a vaulted ceiling at some point I may take a different cape from one of the many elk we take every year.

But my wife has never been big on having animals in the house. But I am breaking her in big time this fall. I have an antelope and badger coming and in August I have 10 animals from Africa being delivered. I guess if I go from zero to 12 animals in one fall then I should be able to sneak an elk onto the wall. She doesn't know it yet but my kudu is going upstairs. Sorry honey. I always told her when I get a good Stone Sheep it was going upstairs or it would be going in my new house when I leave her. lol But now the kudu has no choice but be hung upstairs. Was a good 13 years of marriage.
