We are planning a moose trip this sept and want to look into chartering a flight to a lake east of dease lk.

There will be 3 of us plus our gear so a sesna should do it, but if a beaver is not too expensive we might take a beaver and bring more gear and a canoe.

Any recomendations and contact info for pilots based in dease lake? I found a couple outfits with google but I'd like to hear from guys who may have used them.

With three guys and gear you'll likely need a beaver

And that wont include a moose on the way out.

You can figure a flight in, to get you guys theres. A flight to get the pilot home. Another flight to come get you. A flight home with moose meat and one guy. Another flight back to get the guys and gear left behind and the flight home. So most likely 6 flights to get you guys in there and thats with a beaver.

Cesna usualy can carry no more than 750lb so three small guys and light packs is possible but I doubt most people could do it.
Bruce with BC/Yukon air would be my choice he flys a beaver. He is on the site but I can't remember his handle.

second Everetts' recomendation.Bruce is a great pilot with lots of experience.

I would recomend a small inflatable not a canoe.imo

Don't know of one flying out of there. Bruce has a toy in the hanger, but I don't think there's anything on wheels for charter.

Last couple flights out of Dease we took a Foldaboat that strapped to the Beaver's floats.Much better than an inflatible. Gunner

Bruce is a good pilot and been around for a long time, flew with him last year and going back again this year. 1000-1200lbs with the Beaver.

There's Tsayta's islander is of course on wheels based in Dease. Could get quite the camp in on that badboy. Not a whole lotta options for strips in that country though...but there at a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Keith Connors/Ootsa Air is another option. $9/mile for the Beaver I think.

Keep in mind he flies for his own outfit and some other outfitters as well, so it may depend on where you want to go

You can't hire highschool students for $9/hr, you meant something else right? :)

If I remeber correctly Bruce charged me $7.00 per mile last year. We use a pak canoe fits inside the plane so dosn't affect load weight. Bruce says he can lift 1200lb but I betting he can lift more in the right conditions. We came out with two people, two dogs a full camp, pak canoe, moose and a caribou and he figured we had 200 to possibly 300 lb more we could have brought out with our flight conditions.

Ok thanks guys. I've been looking at capacity of the two and tt's looking like we'll need the beaver. But hey who doesn't want to get into a beaver after 8 days in the bush?

Heh heh, thanks for pointing that out. $9 an hour would be pretty cheap beaver :)

Yep, Bruce is excellent. BC Yukon Air. I beleieve is on the forum. BCyukonair. Search the yukonair posts. He posted his rates last year. I do believe Keith from Ootsa is $9 a mile for the Beav.

From last year:

Re: fly in costs
in dease lk standard beaver $7.50 a mile if the price of gas dont go up to much . pay load 1200 lbs.
if lake x 100 miles $1500.oo to drop you off [aircraft got to come home] anothere $1500.oo to pick you up.we dont charge park fees. mininum flight 40 miles $600.oo [40 there 40 back home.]
it is nice for the pilot if you have a sat phone.get wx and hunter can have an eta of plane.you've got to rember that aircraft only works 90 days a year so got to make $ when the sun shines.

I would also look at North Pacific Seaplanes, I am using them this year. They were recommended highly..........Tried to get a hold of Bruce a couple of time, but he wouldn't return my calls.

I believe Bruce is retiring. The message on my phone was short and blunt all I was told that he couldn't fly me and who is flying this year. Contact Brian Blom North Pacific Seaplanes. He told me last week he will be flying possibly 2 Beavers out of Dease this fall. $8 a mile. If you want in call soon he was flooded with requests.

Flights North (Taysata Air)have a beaver at Telegraph creek on floats.Rick flies resident hunters ,fisheries and outfitters. They have another base at Dease Lake, would be well worth speaking to,vary exsperienced in the northern BC area.Good for a laugh to.
