My hunting partner ( combine pilot ) and I finished our 2012 shed hunting season last weekend. We got in about 5 full days this year and a few half days. Our totals were 11 moose, 3 elk , 25 mule deer and a whitetail skull that scores about 130. Our best day for weight was last week when we found 5 moose ranging between 13 and 16 pounds each, 3 were brown. Our elk spot did not produce this year and we found very few fresh mule deer. We had a very warm winter with little snow so the animals seemed to be spread out more than normal, making shed hunting tougher this year. Over all it was a good season with lots of excercice and we also found about 10 more moose and 2 elk that were not worth packing out.

Nice haul buddy! I can't believe I haven't come across a moose shed with all the ground I have covered this year. Looks like you found a bunch of right sides but no lefts for those moose, no matching pairs? Ill tally up my sheds and throw a photo up of the haul as well. Are you in reg 8?

All singles this year on the moose which is odd. I am looking forward to your pictures. The sheds are from region 7

Brought 43 home incuding three sets. Left a lot of older ones in the bush. Started getting picky as time went on. I have covered some ground in the last few months, thats for sure. No moose for me, which is surprising considering the amount of moose sign I saw. Not sure where they are dropping but there must be a pile of them out there around Kamloops.

It didn't seem like I had that much until I layed them all out! I did stain a couple but not very happy with the results. I used the potassium permanganate. I wont hijack the thread so I will post some of my results with it later. For the record the bottom pair were white and had three coats. The middle pair is all natural and the top big pair had one coat. 10 nice browies and a few that were new but in the sun so one side is faded but dark on the bottom.

Nice work fellas! I only got out a couple times ended up with 8 blktail sheds. I did find a couple of matches to some I found last year which was cool though. I'm off to alberta in a couple weeks so I might go look around just for something to do.

Nice sheds. Now what do you do with them? Do you just pile them up or make things with them?

Hey Andy
Are they selling full antlers or just cut off tines(chews). My red bone likes full moose antlers, she will chew a five pound antler to the base in a month or so. Our house dog loves them as well, a moose antler will last her years if the hound dosn't find it. They will chew deer and elk as well , but both prefer moose paddles. We sure notice an improvement in there teeth and breath after a couple weeks of chewing.

Tough luck on the leg. The long grass is making it a challenge to spot the sheds now for sure. Pretty much just going for a hike now, no real expectations of finding much these days. I was all over the place looking this spring. Anything close to town was full of footprints by the end of March so I started getting back in the bush and it payed off. I did hikes from Logan Lake to Pritchard and North to Sun Peaks. I did a lot of short hikes where ever my work took me. Would see a nice looking hillside and go for an hour loop and back to the truck. I went for a quick hike yesterday but the skeeters were brutal and I only lasted an hour. Even with bug spray on the were smacking off my face and hands. I've been bumping into lots of deer so its still nice to be out there but like I said, no real expectations of success.

shed total 2012 not over yet

fresh BT deer 2

old BT deer 1

fresh rose sheds 8 3 sets 5x6 6x6 6x6 (1 set was my friends Girl friend (rookie), i knew the sheds would be on that hill side i had nick named the bull "hangers" because i bumped him the week before at about 8 yards i was looking up hill right at his nads...... and he had already shed)

old rose sheds 23 several sets ( 6 were my bro's)
rose winter kill from one winter ago 1 6 x 6 (brothers in my new hot spot... not fair i walked within a few metres of it the week before)

dont worry i had many days of nothing a few nasty falls in the thick crap. Many wasted climbs into helishows, and many days of rain and sleet. I have been lucky to get the time off and putting in time is always the key. There are no easy sheds, except for the elk 6 pt one my other friends found in the ditch as we drove out looking for bears i forgot about that. see you out there!
