Went up to hike Silvertip mountain today and came across these antlers which had a spread of 55cm across, I was quite impressed by them as I've personally never seen a Deer with antlers so big. Silvertip is in the Skagit Valley, so do you

You found them like that? They look like they have been cut out like i do to the antlers off of my animals. Do u have closer pics so we can see better? I wonder if someone cut them out of their BLACKTAIL and forgot them in the bush.

Here is the best quality photo I have, The marking tape on the antler is a trail marker from a previous hiker, I guess antlers make good trail markers :-)

i would bet that the trail marking tape was left there by the shooter who planned on hiking out with the meat then return for the antlers , i bet an animal made off with the head while said shooter was making the treck back . nice rack though. wouldnt a rack that size be some kind of world record blacktail or something ? all blacktail pics ive seen have had really compact looking antlers , im no expert by any means , but my immediate guesse was mulie.

I'm going with the dooood, Hybrid all the way. The Skagit is right on the boundary of blacktail and mules they interbreed.
End of Chilliwack lake by the U.S.A. border is the same thing. Boundary border meeting of both deer.
Jel .. High breed ..

I think you should start a new thread!!....sure it's nice to get your lost flask or backpack back from a fellow HBC member but imagine getting your trophy blacktail back that some yote dragged off while you packed the meat out LOL!! New thread should read "FOUND lost Record Book Blacktail!" I'm sure an hunter that shot that bad boy would have a couple field pics for proof? I think without seeing the cape of this deer calling it a blacktail, mule, or hybrid is a tough call unless it was dna analized...but it sure has the shape of an old blacktail! Maybe those Herrling Island whitetails got in the mix....tri-breed anyone "jab, jab"

Definately an awesome rack and I imagine the shooter put the flagging tape on it to come back for it

Great find for sure! Did you bring it out with you? It would be nice to put a tape on them!I'm sure you will have a lot of hunters LOL, claiming they shot it!

I would say blacktail. I shot a blacktail that looks similar and it is 22in. wide which I believe is about 55 cm. It is a three point too but, has no brow times at all.

Any missing persons in that area? I always pack out the rack and cape first. Then go back for the meat. I've only heard of people putting flagging tape on antlers if they were packing them out!

I hate to say it but I would have left that in the bush where it was. That's one ugly rack either way, blacktail, mule or hybrid.
Jel .. No ugly racks .. whose bad .. that rack .. lol ..

Whats the distance between the pedicles? If you have the rack to measure that is.

Nice find, very likely Blacktail. May have some mulie genetics in it but you'll find way more BT characteristics in that area despite being close to the "mulie-blacktail boundary".

No, it would not be counted as a BT.

Silvertip Mountain is a marked trail, so I am not sure if it was a hiker or hunter that marked the antler and it's hard to tell if the antlers were cut off or if they have been chewed down to the way they look now.

21.65 inches wide!,very easily blacktail width. hmm , who knows ! i'm not familair with where you are. They look cool either way , the tape is deffinitely an odd one ! Those bases are right at par with a senior blacktail. All the 'super senior' blacktail racks I have seen are 2 points up top with massive bases...it'll be a mystery , cool one though.

Fair number of mulie/blacktail hybrids in that area. Nice find!

Skagit should be typically blacktail country but there are plenty of hybrid in and around the hope range!
