View Full Version : Great Shot, No Blood Trail!

I blew a stalk on this bear earlier in the evening. Later I saw him in a better position for another try. So I sneaked up behind a little steep bluff and peeked over expecting to see him still feeding, but he had headed into the trees again. With nothing better to do near the end of the night, I just waited. Before the bugs could drive me off, he fed out into the open again and I ranged him at 38 yards. He was on a steep hill and I was across the hill and a little down. When he turned back uphill and came broadside, I sent an arrow through both his lungs and into the debris beyond him. The bear growled and crow hopped, then took off full speed up the steep incline! Within ten yards and a few seconds he came rolling back down, stopping five yards farther down the hill than he had been when I shot him.

No blood trail at all. But then I didn't really need one.

Skull green is 19 5/8" , so it should dry up to about 19".

For the gear guys:
Mathews Drenalin 29" draw at 67#
Easton Axis arrows
NAP Spitfire 125 grain broadhead
Blazer Vanes
Total arrow weight = 475 grains.

Rod, it is guys like you that keeps me so hungry to for bow hunting. Congrats on the beast and the mention of no blood trail. It stresses the fact that a clean shot is extremely important and where the animal could go as well. I'm learning a lot from guys like you. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, what he said... If I ever get to be half the bow hunter you are, I'll be a happy man.
I see you're having no issues getting mechanicals to open properly. Hmm, got some time to help out a newb this weekend?

Sweet bear bud.

You are very very very lucky your mechanical broadhead opened upon impact. I read on the Internet that they rarely do. Lol :)
