well the weather was beautiful and the fishing really wasnt as good as ive seen it ...we put alotta hours in and got 4 out of the five fish in 45 minutes ..the bite just suddenly turned on and stopped as fast as it started..we fished from thursday till saturday night from daylight till dark ...prawning was not so good ,,,..outa 8 traps we got maybe 200 prawns...crabbing was shitty ,they were 99 percent females and the males we did get were molting ...

just ate most of the prawns ...what a difference from fresh prawns compared to the frozen super store crap

All the reports I've heard from that weekend were pretty dismal. You actually did better than most, as many were skunked. Damn SLOW start to the springs this year! :cry:

The result of last year's fiasco with over 5,000 commercial traps being rolled over daily - for close to 6 weeks that is.
Those Sporties that tried to get a few this spring have been largely disappointed with the catches.
Spoke with a handful of commercial prawners, and they reported catch rates less than half of what last year was - all over up and down the Island. Bit of a rotating door in the Inlet and Sound, one comes in and finds it slow, wanders off, and the next wanders in to replace him. Hopefully the hit will be a little less intense this year, and we'll see a few more around down the road...
