Nicely Done. And I'm pretty sure I recognize that clearing/gravel pit. Still a decent looking bear with no hair rubbed out. Sow or Boar?

well only my second year of hunting......

on friday I had the afternoon off and gave my buddy a call , he was good to go. so off we went to a region spot we have spent some time in this year, we were trying to get him his first animal with the bow.

we spent a few hours hiking a few spur roads and not seeing much , we decided one more road that i have seen a few bears on , he decided to stop and have a "smoke" and just sit and wait for some action..............I walked another km up the road..

after scanning the clear cut for 20 mins i spotted movement about 100 yards down the road, seems I was looking too far away .

the bear was just coming up the slash onto the deactivated road, i waited for the right times to close the distance and withe wind in my favour it was quite easy .

he popped into a "ditch" to eat some clovers and i moved into range at 15 yards.....a little closer than I like but the closer the better.

he came out of the ditch and turned broad side, alredy taking range markers i was ready to let the arrow fly.

I hit him just behind the right arm , turned out I took out all the arteries connected to the heart............as he started to run I noticed he started puking blood out of his mouth as he ran , he only ran 25 feet before falling down...........

I never heard the "death moan" on my first bear , but this bear let one out......not a very nice thing to hear.

full pass through with the arrow and it went about another 20 yards and stuck into a log.......400 gn arrows really pack a punch at 70 lbs.

not a monster but really cool hunt and every animal I have taken has been hard earned.

Good looking bear. Nicely written story - not all bunched up into one long sentence. Thanks for that, I wish more people would think a bii and do the same.

70 lbs pushing a heavier arrow hits like a ton of bricks, and does a lot of damage in the process. 15 yards on a bear gives new meaning to "up close and personal".

Nicely done, sir.

Congrats, Jim! Hey, did you leave the gut pile by the road near the blocked road (you probably know what I mean by that)? Because I saw a fresh gut pile Friday night, and today, it was totally gone.

I was pretty sick this weekend, so I just went for a few hours on Friday, then I went somewhere else Sat and came back today. Very little bear signs. However, 42 mule deer, and one elk.
