I just received and set of Vortex Diamondback 12x50 binos for a bday gift. From just looking through these in my back yard they seem to be pretty dam clear! Just wondering if anyone has any input on this set up because i can take them back for another pair if i wanted to. To me they dont feel to heavy and clunky but having 12x50 is all new to me so wondering what down sides this may have if any? Thanks

I have the same ones. Love them. Get a good bino harness and you won't know they are there. The 12 power are a liitle hard to hold still for a long period of time with out a support but for long range glassing u will like the power.

if you wear a ball cap, try grabbing the brim and the binos at the same time. really helps with stabilization. been running Vortex binos for 3-4 years now, awesome glass for the money and amazing service when you break them :)

Will you be hunting with a spotter as well? If so, I would go down to a 10x or even an 8x depending on how much hiking/backpacking you do. If not, then just be aware that it'll be shaky without a rest.

Cool idea re the brim, Amphibious.

I have 3 different sets of Vortex bino's in my household and think they are great. My wife has the Diamondbacks and they are nice, but I personally would prefer a set of 10x for hunting or possibly even 8x over the 12x

10x is max I'd want for most hunting purposes.

Agreed, 10X for stand type hunting and 8X for hiking rough terrain...

Go down to 10 power, that is about the max you need, and you will still need to hold your upper arms against your chest to keep steady. Cheers Roscoe

I have had a set of 8.5x50's for just over +4 years now, I use them for everything - especially 3D shoots. They are great.

For general hunting purposes - like glassing the other side of the valley - I think that a pair of 10x would serve me better.

I have trouble at low light with 10X (but I own Bushnells). Damn nice gift! Get a harness as others have suggested -keeps your binocs close and ready.

The weight is no different between the 10x50 and the 12x50 so i think im going to just keep the ones i got rather than the hassle of returning them. Thanks for all the responces.

Hey as others have suggested get the harness works great for mine! The only problem I have had with the 12x is some eye fatigue when glassing for extended periods of time, but could just be my eyes as well, that's a great gift you will love it
