Well everyone they do exist.. I went hunting up north of Wells, we hunted
for 5 days before seeing this one. It was raining pretty good so we did not see any other hunters. My dad and I walked into this slash it had a small patch of tall firs on the crest of this mound over looking a slash/meadow. I waited under a fir tree while my dad walked along this ridge to see the other half of the slash. My dad was about 40 yards to my left making a few cow calls very 10 mins or so. He was just about to make another call when suddenly there was a pair of ears about 25 feet infront of me. I said to my self thats a moose... He was eating the tops of a small regrowth pine. All
I could see was a spike ear tree ear spike. I could not move because
i was standing on dry branches. So I aimed my 444 at the tree where
I though is head would be boom. He fliped up and landed on his side.
My dad may have called another moose in who knows.
We stretched out 110 yards of rope tied to the truck cleared some
debre out of the way and pulled him onto the road and then used my
dad's custom made winch and winched him into the box.
While we were doing this the rain turned into 2" snow flakes. It was one
of the best snow blizzards I have ever seen.
As a side note to stir up some debate we left the hide on for two days
while he hung. At night it was about -10. When we skinned him which
was alittle harder cold, but under the hide was ice cold. so by leaving
the hide on the meat did not dry out so there was less meat loss.
