Hello Everybody,

so long story short I am working this summer and possibly a little longer into the fall in Saskatchewan so I figured if I'm here I should shoot something. I am in Regina and was hoping some of you who have done some whitetail hunting here could point me in the right direction in terms of which mu zones have been enjoyable and maybe some hunting technique tips on how to stalk up to a whitetail with a bow when the terrain is flat.

any input is appreciated, new to whitetail hunting new to bow hunting and new to Saskatchewan so I am a blank slate

Get to as many 3D shoots as you can to sharpen up your skills with the bow. http://www.saskarchery.com/ShootDates.html
Spot and stalk on the whitetails is going to be challenging but do-able, they are very flighty and wary, much more so than Mulies. Keep the wind as close to your face as possible if hunting from the ground.
While it may look flat out there, there are many sloughs and small valleys that will hold deer, not just the farm fields. Through the summer scout in the evenings before dusk and start knocking on doors asking for permission. Maybe try hunting from a blind if you can pattern their movements..

One more thing... if you are not a Saskatchewan resident you will have to apply for their draw which closes May 31st. http://www.environment.gov.sk.ca/Default.aspx?DN=a9d8183f-411b-4f5c-86f6-9f93e142a0f8 (Just in case you didnt know that already.)

Thanks Fozzy,

I wanted some more info before applying since the tag is around $140.00, but I scouted the farm field around the house I'm renting and found some tracks throughout and will most likely build a blind since none of the trees in the area can support a tree stand.

Would you recommend early or late season for whities or do they seem to stay put all year round in a general area?

Thanks

The season is pretty short and hunting there as a "Canadian resident" you will only have one week to hunt. Nov 25-30th is usually the dates.

but you can KILL them ALL YEAR around with your car ,,,

a 1973 LIncoln Town Car is considered the "magnum" for road-killin WT's in Saskatchewan,,,

most I ever got was 3 WT's in ONE HIT with a Dodge Monaco 440 C.I.D.

( weight 5200 pounds,,,vel ? about 110 mph) :-D

Yes, I've seen my share of road kill out there when I lived there. The worst one was a horse at about 70mph, not a pretty sight. The closest I came was a nice big Mulie buck standing on the yellow line late at night and it was a big foggy out and I was driving a small car.

Haha ya the road kill is already evident and I've spotted a few deer and found a spot which to build a blind so hopefully you'll be seeing some pictures of a buck this September

Now to pick up a 223 and start picking off some coyotes

this is on the sask hunting website for 2012 seson!!!!!!

Canadian resident hunters are required to submit an online application for their 2012 white-tailed deer licence. Interested hunters will be able to select one wildlife management zone of their choice and then will be required to limit their hunting activities to that zone. There will be no priority pool system or licence quotas for 2012 and all eligible applicants will receive a licence.
The online application system will be operational from May 1 until May 31, 2012. You may submit your application by selecting the following link: https://secure.gov.sk.ca/biggame/default.asp (https://secure.gov.sk.ca/biggame/default.asp)
