I was in the Tunkwa area today and saw some new signs with maps showing closed areas to all off road vehicles. No automobiles, dirt-bikes, quads, nothing. Trails had signs posted that they are closed. Main roads appeared open only in the area I was in. Ministry of Forests signs stated that the areas are also closed to open camping in non-designated areas. This is an attempt to allow re-vegetation of destroyed grassland and other heavy use trails. Trails are closed from Jan 1 to Dec 31. For how long? I did not see that info.

Thats the new rules. Main roads only. Anyone thinking of camping around Tunkwa better reserve a spot now for May 24 at the resort or get up early to the rec sites. The cops will be out in force kicking people out of the grasslands and writing fines.

The snowmobile rule is you can opperate a sled if there is over .5 m of snow I believe. Not much good for now.

Read this release.

The resort is in the middle of the park but its the whole area. All the grass fields where people pull up 5th wheels and set up camp are now off limits. They always were off limits I think but people ignored the rules.

This is only the start. Unfortunately 95% of the people are going to pay for 5% of the nimrods. Expect more and more of these closures across the province if the motorized vehicle crowd doesn't get their collective you know what together.

i checked it out this past weekend after hearing about it. Still lots of prime hunting in tunkwa. Great to get on your feet and off the quads. Our group has never been skunked up there in 15 years and don't plan on starting this year. Years of great hunting still up there.
