Anyone have any tricks to replace the brass loop that sometimes come loose/out ?
Thought someone has a better idea than drilling through with an eye bolt and lock nut.
Thanks.

well doesnt your downrigger cable just have a plastic clip ,that will just clip onto the meatal ring on the cannonball where the drass loop fell out of

No the brass loop that is normally sunk into the lead ball came out. Just saw an old one laying around so figured there is a good way to fix them.
Simplified; it is now a round ball of lead with no means to attach to anything :)

oh ..i gotchya ..all mine just have the metal hook molded in when it was melted ...one idea would be ..go grab some u nails ..the large ones anr hammer them in ...might work ..drilling and tapping lead is real simple cuz its so soft ...but i think hammering in some hooks will work ,,,or those celing screw hooks and just screw em in

Maybe try drilling a bit of a hole, take a torch and melt the hole, insert eye with anchor on bottom and let cool??

If you get old wheel weights from the tire shops they're basically free to make, other than the initial cost of the mold and the loops.
I also paint them with plasti-cote so you're not handling bare lead all day.

Got both from Cabelas USA, the loops aren't too expensive, maybe 10c each

I wonder what Gun Clubs do with all the lead when they clean up the berms?

To the OP: have you considered Epoxy? Drill out the whole and wiggle the drill, so the base inside is bigger than the exit hole, put a good bend in the hook, and set it in. Might work. ther than that, I'd go with jeff's soldering iron idea, and melt it right in. Wear safety gear if you do this, and ventilate the area.

Make sure you work in a well-ventilated area and stay upwind of the fumes. Adds another meaning to "lead poisoning!!

i do a ton of fishing ..have had more luck with cotote spoons than tomic spoons ..but i do like the road runner tomic spoon, only thing is its made so cheap it bends easy ,its really hard to bend a coyote spoon

Ive heard if you use tire balance weights to melt down for fish weights to definitely coat them with something because they are full of contaminants that really mess with your electrolysis. According to "Black Box" manufacturers. As for weight loops, if you know an electrician you can score some short ends from some heavy copper wire that will work fine.
