Well I got out this morning and managed to connect on a nice Tom. I left the house around 5:30 and was out of the truck by 5:45 walking on an old skid trail stopping to call every 200-250m. No responses until shortly before 9:00 when I spotted a tom strutting in the middle of the trail maybe 75m ahead around a long sweeping corner. I faded left into the curve and got set up. I was hoping that as he had his back to me I hadn't been spotted. I gave a series of yelps and no response at all. I waited a bit and gave another series with some purrs and clucks and yet again nothing. I began to think I'd been busted so I slowly stuck my head out so I could see a bit further around the corner and lo and behold he was coming. I got my shotgun trained on the area where I felt he would first appear and be within range. It took a bit but I was able to watch him through the willows slowly making his way towards me. As he came on there was a lot of rustling in the undergrowth off to my left so I knew he wasn't alone. As he came into range I let him keep coming so he was totally clear of the shrubs. Once he was clear I squeezed the trigger and another successful spring Turkey season ends for me. As I shot the bush exploded with turkeys, probably 15 maybe 20 birds took to the air or into deep cover. Pretty exciting stuff. I think turkey hunting may well be one of my favourite hunts. Now for the stats for those of you who care, weight: 21lbs length of beard: 8" Spurs:5/8" and 9/16" and a very even beautifully coloured fan. Sorry I can't get the pics to load up they tell me the file is too large and I'm not sure what to do. When or if I figure it out I will send them on.

resize your photos to 50% in paint, then re-save file as its title and size reduced. ends up being perfect size to upload here.

Thanks to nasty for helping me out and getting my pics up on the thread. The hunt was a blast but the hike out to the truck was brutal, it was an hour return with over half of it up a very steep and slippery slope. I have to say there is no real comfortable way to carry a turkey, my pack and my gun up a mountain. I was almost wishing I had along a proper pack to stuff the tom into but it was worth it. Anyone who hasn't tried turkey hunting before should give it a go but I have to warn you it is addicting.

Beauty tom, congrats. I'll second the warning about turkey hunting being addictive.
