anyone run a 240 sport jet in their river boats??

I have a harborcraft 1975 with 240 sportjet trying to figure out what my fuel consumption would be at 4500 rpm.

i did but had to switch up to a 200 optimax so i could afford to run it. my 240 was running about 15-20gph empty on the lake just mucking around

Haven't owned a 240 personally, but I know more than a few who have, and they have all said the same thing..........it was a good engine (out of production now) but is a terrible gas-hog. All jet boats are gas hogs, but the 240 was just worse than any of the other SJ's.
Your stated 4500 rpm is quite high, so your fuel consumption is going to be way up there........minimum 12 gph I would guess, and probably higher. Don't know what you have in it, but a 4 blade "hi skew' impeller and close tolerance sleeve might help some.
For comparison......My 250 SJ Opti in 20' Alicraft (light load) burns about 5 to 5.5 gph at cruise of around 3400 rpm.

I ran 18 ft alicraft with 240 sj cruising at 4500 rpm my smart guage would read around 14.5 gallons per hour

I am gonna stick with my 90 hp Jetta Diesel. 1 gal. per hour, Why in the hell can't they use a motor like that for a boat and all the small cars, they are @140 hp. now and still burn the same amount of fuel???

Thats just fuel too!!! What about the other shit wear and tear ect?!! Probably 100 buck an hour for sure!! Need to have some serious disposable income for those adventures on a regular basis!! Moosin

Yea - go boating up the river hunting for the weekend - 5 hrs each day in the boat $1000.00 for the weekend just for boat fuel - then truck fuel -then BEER ! - then food - then ? then ?
