Does anyone knows a lab/ price for testing wild meat for parasites? Particularly bear meat for trichinelliasis?

I called to Abbotsford Animal Health Centre and I been told that they dont know anybody doing it?

Very appreciate your coments on it.

Why test it? I have never heard of anything wrong with bear meat in recent years.

If its cooked to proper temps, its fine

Some of my friends making a face when I tell that it is bear meat burgers. It seems eaier to have the test done instead of explaining the temperature and everything else.

Yep, cook it to 175 deg. And yer good.
I googled the hell out of it and came up with that being the only way to kill it. Aparently the straign of Trich in Bears is different then the one in Pigs. The straign in pigs you can kill by freezing in your regular deep freeze but the one in bear requires tempratures lower then what you can get in your home freezer.

but if you search it here in the search function there was a place in Van that did test it.

If they are concearned, make them locate and pay for the tests :)

You enjoy your bear knowing its safe when prepped properly.

Freezing meat is not sufficient to prevent trichinellosis. Meat should be cooked thoroughly at a temperature of at least 77°C to achieve an internal temperature of 71°C. I found this in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal).

Don't tell them it's bear, tell them it's beef, and you'll probably get compliments of how good they taste.
