Flew out to Calgary this weekend to pick up our new 7 week old German Shorthaired Pointer. We named her Tele and she is looking to be just amazing. She is already retrieving (first few tries in the airport) and has lots of energy.

We have been waiting for over 8 months on the wait list so needless to say we are very excited. She came from Bevan's Pointers just outside of Drumheller, Alberta, with both parents being great gun dogs.

Check out the video and PLEASE let me know if you have any advice for us. This is our first pointer and want to make her the very best waterfowl/hunting/family dog we can.

Awwe, what a sweetheart. Only thing I remember about training dogs(2 Labs) was that they have short attention spans when young so keep sessions short. Also if you ever get annoyed or mad, training over and time for play. Give her lots of love and attention and I am sure she will be a great dog(they all are). Cheers Roscoe

Anyone have any issues with repeated nipping (wife's legs, feet, hands etc)? She doesn't like to let go. Giving her a chew toy/stern 'NO' to intervene does not work...focused on flesh!

I assume she views the activity as play and is teething but can anyone give us a heads up?

Congrats. My wife house trained our two in a matter of days. Every 4 hours she took them outside and said "Go Pee!!" 8 years later they pee --on command.
The females are the smartest. They are fearless and love to hunt. Best Regards. Walker

Thanks for all the advice and complements, she is getting much better with the nipping. It took a little 'hard love' but she is now getting the idea that her teeth do not belong on people.

I'll be sure to keep the pics coming but here is one from today that put a huge smile on my face.

Maybe sprinkle some cayenne pepper on the areas where she bites?? Nice looking pup. My advice is just hunt her as much as possible and her genes will kick in. My gsp has countless hours on upland birds, mostly chukars and sometimes i feel sorry for the birds. The dogs get so bird-smart if in the field enough. Give her lots of freedom while hunting and she will prove herself. This sage advice is if you want a gun-dog not a field trial dog.
