Yukon border may close to non processed game

Has any one else heard the rumour floating around that the Yukon Govt is considering a ban on any game that has not first been cut/wrapped and frozen. The way it has been proposed is there would be no exzemptions for the highway coridors that go in and out of BC ie you cant hunt Atlin area any more........

Haven't heard of it. Would royally mess with the Dempster & porcupine caribou season.

Lots of problems with other species including farmed elk being shipped through BC. The concern is more about CWD and farmed game than anything else. YK has delt with the bison issue, but elk still not done.

Kinda getting late in the regulatory process to make anything happen for 2012, although you never know.

Until this thread, I used to think the BC reg to cover CWD was for prairie hunts but it includes from any jurisdiction. There is a lot of meat that hits the highway at Watson Lake bound for points south.
Reading page 24 of the BC regs, it is not too hard to comply with what they want for processing.
If the Yk adopts something similar, it should be no problem for you Dude

There's several bison farms around WH (turning out a great product!), how could this impact them? Can somebody post the BC requirements, my Adobe is broken.

The LaPrairie Bison Ranch has shipped all of its bison to Saskatchewan, the Yukon government has confirmed.

Cliff and Virginia LaPrairie could not be reached by phone this week to discuss their decision to get out of bison game farming.

Environment Yukon spokeswoman Nancy Campbell said the government is limited in what it can say because of privacy considerations and an outstanding lawsuit filed in 2010 by the LaPrairies against the Yukon government.

“We can confirm that all of the bison were shipped out to Saskatchewan,” she said.

Campbell said while she can’t disclose specifics about the export permits, she did confirm an export permit for game farm animals was issued for the period Dec. 14 to Dec. 31, 2011.

While there are a handful of game farms in the Yukon, the LaPrairie farm was the only one with bison, as most farms handle elk.

In 2009, the Yukon government implemented a moratorium on importing any more game farm animals into the territory.

“The moratorium will remain in place pending a determination by the veterinary officer regarding the risk posed by imports,” Campbell said.

She said there is no deadline for the veterinary officer to report her findings about the risk of importing game farm animals.
