A beautiful morning on Elk Lake this morning. Lots of fish rising early but fishing was tough. Caught our first carp 3lbs 10 oz, a great battle on the 5 weight fly rod. My son also caught a 2 lb 10 oz rainbow, tying for first place in the junior category. Largest trout over all was 4lbs 1 oz, largest bass over 8 lbs!

Lots of carp in there, up to 15 lbs Ive heard (but not seen). But they are tough to catch. Ive heard corn, and bread dough are the best bait according to european fishing sites where carp fishing is popular. There was at least one other caught there today. Ours took a #12 blood worm dead drifted about 24 feet deep.

nice carp JP! I fished them lots in Osoyoos Lake years ago. They are really tough to catch but boy do they battle! And and 8lb Bass....nice....those are smallies over there too right?

I assume that was a large mouth, they were introduced (illegally) a decade or so ago and have developed a solid population. Not sure if its related but trout fishing has been much tougher the last couple years IMO. I havent fished Bass much in recent years but I gather the smallmouth population is still thriving as well, they just dont get as big. Did you ever eat the carp? I'm planning on turning it into dungeness crab.

Ya, I tried it once.

Better as crab bait.

VERY muddy.

Ya crab bait would be a better bet! :-)

Didn't know that Largemouth had been introduced over there, but not really surprised. True enough on the smallmouth being smaller, but damn they are fun to catch.

Elk's really become popular with the bucket brigade. You never know what you might catch.(not just fish)

On my runs I usually see shore fisherman doing farely well getting 16-18" trout. The boys that anchor with a bucket of cured salmon eggs see to do OK as well.:icon_frow
