Go to Zellers and get some Stanfield's Ascot. Specifically made for Zellers by Stany, they are a boxer brief, comfy and inexpensive.

I bought one of each of these for my 19 day stones sheep hunt. Ended up using them on almost every hunt. Wicked for weight and for comfort. I would recommend them. Plus they don't get to stinking. Read reviews on the links.

Underwear has always been a weak point for me too.

I tried using Misty Mtn briefs but after close to 2 straight weeks of wearing rain gear on a caribou hunt, a had some nasty stuff brewing down below. Let's just say moist conditions and synthetics aren't a good combination.

There's a reason that Raggety Anne has a cotton crotch.

I think I'm going to try the ones mentioned by Big Bore.

I boght some misty mountain and they are my favorite so far. Never had to where them for more than 5 days though. Tried under armour. I've used a few different types of boxer briefs over the years and haven't had any major complaints. The current batch are from MEC and the ones before that were REI. I look for decent length legs to stop them bunching up and change them out. Who wears the same sweaty under wear for two weeks on a sheep hunt? You climb and sweat, the water component of the sweat evaporates and leaves the salt which crystalizes on the fabric and causes your chafing. Swap under wear every day or two and rinse the used ones and let them dry is my routine conbine with a little gold bond powder and it has kept me chafe free for years.

That's why I like the paper thin synthetic ones from MEC, they don't sell them anymore though. The $10 bargain bin ones, they were tight fitting, and have good length and were super thin... I don't think they even weigh 2 ounces a pair, so I always take two. A quick rinse like you say and they are good to go, and take 10 minutes to dry. I've been chafe free for a long time.

Icebreaker merino boxers work without (much) stink for me. Two pair gets me by two weeks.

Chamois Butt'r skin lubricant for the crotch and butt really keeps everything working as designed, without perfume type odors too. Designed for biking and any other activity that leaves you chafed. Comes in an 8 oz tube or small 0.3 oz tear open packs. I got by with two of the small tear open packs for two weeks.

What a thread. Most educational.
I have been using the Green bottle of Gold Bond for years. The guys in the firehall were using it years ago before heading out training or going to a fire call so I tried it out. Awesome!
As for the underwear, I've never even bought my own before. The women have been doing the buying for me my entire life. Well, that stops today.
Enough of the Costco bulk cotton packs of boxers. Time to buy my own. I am putting my foot down! :)
Just ordered Saxx and Under Armour for starters. I am one step closer to becoming a man.
Thanks guys. :)

I gotta resupply with some better undies thats for sure, I've tried a few different pairs of synthetics over the years and like polypro long underwear you can't stand your self after a couple days, and the synthetics seem to be a little tighter and squeeze the "wedding tackle" into uncomfortable locations. Definitly a worth while thread.

Hahaha... if you want your nuts to bake in an oven all day... lol. I haven't found merino ginch thin enough for me yet... First Lite is next-to-skin comfy but waaaay to warm and comes down to your knees. I like my MEC $10 synthetics because they are so thin. It takes maybe 3 days for my merino wool anything to start stinking.

There is a lot of non-stink stuff marketed now with silver particles, silver threaded in, merino's anti-bacterial and IMHO it's mostly bullshit. Or I just really stink.

Heh heh.

The merino stuff certainly does start to smell after a few days, but never seems to get 'bad' smelly. IMO it's much more bearable than the stench that comes from synthetics reacting to a gallon of ball sweat. :) Same for me with the smartwool shirts - wear for a week and I can still put up with it. If I wear an underarmour synthetic for 2 days, it stinks so bad the dog tries to roll in it.

Yellow- baby powder
Blue- Burn the bag off
Green- Heaven in a dust cloud.

The wife and I bought a couple of pairs of Tilley Endurables for backpacking in Europe 7 years ago. The Tilley store was on Granville Just North of Broadway in Vancouver when we lived there. That is the only Tilley garb that we have so it's not like we are safari snobs or anything. They were a bit pricey...I think $20+/pair, but I still use them. They never chafe, you don't sweat in them and they keep things quite cool.

Okay here goes... another VERY important item to take along on backpacking hikes are Pampers Baby Wipes, non scented variety. No will-nots, squeaky clean, clean up the entire region, no fuss, no muss, and fresh as a flower hour after hour! Wipe willy, the boys, and the ejection port, slip back into the merino and good to go go go! Going to have to try the GB I guess... would it work as a wind indicator too?

Can't say enough good about those Steve!!

I heard about them 2 years ago as a buddy who plays in the NHL (was sponsored by Saxx) was fishing with me up in Kyuquot.....we were having a "man's" discussion about skivvies out on the deck one night and the gals inside were questioning if we were becoming "soft". Apparently 3 guys having a scotch and a cigar talking about "briefs" seemed odd to them.

OMG this stuff is great. What with it being so hot at work these days, I usually shower before going to work. Now after I get out of the shower and dry off, I give the future generations a dusting and in no time at all, you get this REALLY cool feeling where it matters the most.

Real men hike in a pink camo banana hammock….

Seriously though I like the merino stuff, the poly pro stuff is nice but disgusting after a couple hours like most have said. So Ice breaker, first lite, helly, mec, etc, it's more about how you like your ginch to fit. The gold bond thing has been part of the routine for at least 16 yrs, pretty common with military folk. As a couple have mentioned gold bond is preventative, if there is skin damage DO NOT apply gold bond as it will feel more like A535 at that point.
Chamois buttr is a good product, but penaten diaper cream is more readily available at the same places you can get the pampers wipes ;). The nice thing about penaten cream is it tends to stay put better during heavy activity, and I'm not talking about just around the gear. If your a guy that gets upper thigh chafing this may well be your answer, it can be used both preventative and post incident.

As for smelly sock, outside of a 2 part sock system and foot powder swap out your sock soon as you hit camp a quick soak and let'em dry other than that wash your feet. Not much point in doing the other to only to put a smelly foot into a clean sock.
