2012 Spring Turkey Contest Scores
Ok on this is the page I will keep track of the team scores for the turkey contest. You can post your pictures along with the score of your birds here but please keep it to short comments only for the ease of finding the posts with scores. If you want to post longer comments do it on the team threads.

It is your responsibility to post your team # and name when checking in a bird. Along with the score you must post a picture of your bird with the measurements and say if you used a bow or shotgun.

Hey gang! The new bar has definitely been set. Yesterday I talked to a friend of mine who's a butcher and someone from the lower mainland brought him a bird that weighed 27 lbs, had a beard between 10 and 11 inches and 1 1/4" spurs. That's the biggest turkey I've ever heard of from around here. I don't imagine it'll be like veal.

BIRD DOWN.......

Went out this morning with Brez and Good Old Outdoors, trying to get Good Old Outdoors his first bird. We had two going right away but we were unable to close the deal on them. So back to the truck to go try another spot. We located another couple toms and closed the distance. We were able to get the one to come to within 30 yards of Good Old Outdoors, but no shot. I tried to work my way around behind it but didn't get there in time and it had already crossed the road. So after about a 800 yard chess match of a stalk I was able to get a shot and knock him down.

17lbs 6.5oz, 11/16 left and 11/16 right spurs, 8.75" beard = 48.65

Well, guess what? I took the dog for a short drive this afternoon and had to stop to let what my friend calls a Pterodactyl cross the road. This tom's head was as high as the hood of my truck!................OK, maybe a slight exaggeration, but it was as big a bird as I have ever seen. As it climbed the bank I had a good a look at the biggest beard I've ever seen. I'm thinking 11" to 12". I was so dumbfounded, that I didn't get a chance to check the spurs - it was that close. I'll be keeping an eye on him for next year. Real tender too, I bet.

Okay, the prizes have been drawn. This is how it went. Team #4 wins this year and each team member gets a 2012 turkey contest hat. The biggest bird with a shotgun and the biggest with a bow each get a tail fan mount gift card and the smallest bird gets a HBC hat. Then everyone who entered a bird was put into a draw for the other prizes. If you don't send me your mailing address by the end of the month you will not get your prize because I will be to busy to worry about it after that.

I'm leaving on a Grizzly hunt here pretty quick, but great job to all you who got to bring there birds home and look'n forward to put'n some birds up on display for the tail fan winners. We really should try and keep this an annual thing. Just a great excuse to make some new friends and have some fun.
