For the guys who noticed. The teams got changed around this morning. It started out at 5 teams of nine but as soon as I posted the team threads more people wanted into the contest. So I put the new guys into team 6 and then added one guy randomly selected by the guys I work with from each of the other teams. Team #6 is still down one person so they will get anyone still to sign up.

Sorry for any confusion.
Nick.

Caveman and I just got back from the koots and while we had several close encounters and many birds sighted, we did not connect on the opening. Maybe next week locally me thinks.

I've done them both ways and they've been great. The key is to brine them first, helps to keep them moist and tender. I've also done them in the oven and the deep fryer. Mmmmmm now I want some turkey.

I havent done a whole one yet as i usually part it out, deep fryer is next on my list to do , but can u explain more about how u brine it?

This is just what I remember using. I think it changes every time because I usually just use what I have around at the time. Feel free to change the amounts around because I don't like mine to salty.

In a pot on the stove add;
1 L apple juice
1 L vegetable broth
1 tablespoon rosemary
1 tablespoon sage
1 tablespoon thyme
1 tablespoon savory
hand full of pepper corns
3/4 cup salt
1/2 cup brown sugar

Bring to a boil for 5 min remove and add 2 gallons ice water. Let it cool completely. Get a bucket or pot that will fit the whole bird and liquid. Put bird in breast down, add brine. Bird must be covered in brine, if not make more. Let it brine for about 12-18 hours ( go by size of bird ). Remove and dry it off. Save some brine, it makes awsome gravey. Cook, eat, enjoy.

Missed opportunity, accidentally set the alarm for pm instead of am. Wife woke me at 4am, alreay an hour late. Turkeys were already out when we got to my special spot. Tried a stalk but got busted. Heard 1 gobble after that. Seen some more hen's later in the day but they had no interest in coming closer to calls.
