For the guys who noticed. The teams got changed around this morning. It started out at 5 teams of nine but as soon as I posted the team threads more people wanted into the contest. So I put the new guys into team 6 and then added one guy randomly selected by the guys I work with from each of the other teams. Team #6 is still down one person so they will get anyone still to sign up.

Sorry for any confusion.
Nick.

And as for hunting plans, I'm away at college and already have some in place with family and friends. Anyone needing some information can pm me though and I will gladly help you out.

Uraarchr and myself were on the winning team last year so let's take the title again fellas! Hoping you all have a great experience and get up close and personal with some longbeards.

Good Old Outdoors

It seems we can't all decide on a team name haha, but all that matters is that we all connect on a gobbler. Thats where it counts

Brez
04-12-2012, 08:53 AM
Shall we let the lady pick? Don't matter to me, I've been called many names. Getting the birds is what counts. Most of the ones I've been scouting have left for greener pastures or prettier hens - except the 5 toms strutting in the guy's yard down the road every morning. Teasing little .......!

Good Old Outdoors
04-13-2012, 01:12 AM
Haha yeah she can choose, a name isnt what counts. sounds like you are having better luck then I am right now. Given all the miles i have put on this is gonna be one EXPENSIVE gobbler! Might bust out the wifes Corolla and use that to get me from A to B rather then my truck. I am picking Nicks brain a abit so hopefully my luck changes soon. Scouting saturday and possible camping overnight if all is good. Happy hunting

GOO, I've been blowing an hour every day/night and truck gas just trying to keep tabs on the ones I've seen. The big herd is betting smaller by the day as they find better feed as the snow recedes. I am over doing this 'cause I know that I can find them anytime I want to later. I'd like to get one early for a change so it won't be so damned tough!
As far as names go, I'm good with whatever anyone else wants.
Ange, Pick one and we'll go with it.
Good luck to everyone....gotta go practice with my bow.

Right on team mate....

I went out yesterday, got to within 75 yards of the roost tree, had them calling really good, but when they flew down they went the other way and it was a bit too far for the shotgun.....

There were at least 4 toms, 1 big mature one was strutting and gobbling his head off...

Tough luck, Mike but awesome that you found a roost tree. They'll very likely keep that pattern if they're undisturbed so keep at it! Good luck.

Blapped one this morning.. Small jake/tom with small beard, but oh well I am not that picky, he will be a very good eater..Will post all of the data after work..

Pretty lame hunting story......Went to area near roost tree in the dark, sat quietly till it got light enough to confirm that one of the 15 or so birds had a beard (there was a lot gobbling but this was the only confirmed beard), shot him, back in town by 07:00

I have it from a good source that Mike indeed has found a roosting tree/s
there were close to 50 or so birds in there the opening morning, we had a good time calling them, they just never wanted to commit to us when there was so many hens with them

Brez
04-21-2012, 07:04 AM
Well I am wrong again! Just finished telling a my two hunting companions that there is no point going out in the rain because the turkeys don't respond and are just interested in feeding. Shortly after that, in the pouring rain, we limited out and watched three big toms, which were gobbling up a storm, walk away down the road. Got them on video.
Told a friend and he went out in the rain yesterday and had a few good chances.

15 lb bird, spurs 5/7 and 1/4, beard of 2.5, so by my calculations. Grand total of 28.75 points...

Well I am back from my hunt, saw some nice birds and learned quite a bit. I wasn't able to connect with a bird. I went out with bcbrez and Brez this morning, unfortunately if you cant see a bird you cant shoot it. bcbrez was lucky enough to connect with a nice Tom this morning after a mad dash way up a ridge which was brutal.
After a long few days of hiking, getting soaked both in my tent and out searching for birds, and pulling a solid 12 ticks off me today ( just found another 30 mins ago on my leg making a mad dash to my junk), I think its safe to say I will stick with hunting down those goofy looking birds.

Once again, Brez thanks so much for all your help in showing me all I need to know about turkey hunting, and hospitality. And BCbrez, even though you are on a competing team, it was nice to meet you, see you get a nice bird, but because of your practical joke, I still am paranoid about ticks on my neck thanks to you!

Until next year

Tristan

04-28-2012, 04:28 PM
12 TICKS!! wow, didn't I tell you to stay out of the bush? You'll notice that where I walked I got only 3. Guess what? After retracing all of our steps of the day before, I found out that my wallet was at home. A couple of choice words and glasses of wine to cool down. Was great to meet you and I'll keep some days free for next year if you can make it - even if you're on a different team.

Good Old Outdoors
04-29-2012, 09:04 AM
Yeah, I found the last on at home. I changed out of my camo and put some shorts on, 10 mins later i cound one crawling up my calf and faked a throw into the girlfrieds hair just to stir the pot a bit. That sucks about your wallet, but at least you wont have some purchases from some dodgey adult site billed to you in the near future........unless you are into that then, good on you. But it was definitely nice to meet you both down there and I will do my best to make sure I get a chance to make my way down there next spring. I have already been asked by some friends who mentioned to others that I went on a Turkey hunt where exactly to go, so I told them Christina lake, I'm not saying nothing haha.
