Close to the bottom in 150 feet or more of water. Lots of areas are producing halibut.

No wind. No tide. Plenty of patience. Plenty of Lucky.

Lucky always helps unless you work at IO, hardest part about halibut fishing is finding the halibut. Google 'victoria tide table' then check the 'current tide table' for the straight of Juan de Fuca. Anytime you see the tide at a knot or less for an extended period of time (3 hours or more) is a good day to go out. The tides normally come around and are good every second week, if you know when they are good but have no spot just head out there. People are always so protective about their GPS locations but forget all you have to do is drive up to them fishing and put an X on your GPS, just saying.

Look at the charts, find the humps, especially the sneaky little ones or the sheltered draws leading into them. Head out to these spots and your likely to find a boat already anchored there.
