Pretty cool old bruiser! I would have asked for a break on the taxidermy, because its not really a half mount. More like a quarter mount with that foot missing! Any idea as to what took the foot? Snare? Car? Gun shot?

Very cool stuff!!

I've seen 2 three-legged bears before.....and a buddy of mine saw a GIANT cinnamon a few years back that has haunted him for a while....

Very cool mount!

Not only is he missing his paw, but it looks like all his teeth too. Like the dark chocolate phase...

Ok, so I'm going to be honest here despite the congrats. It's not a nice mount although pics do lie. The first picture makes the bear look like it just smoked a big reefer. And the ears make it look like it should be able to get air if it could twitch fast enough. The second pic looks more realistic than the first but then again. Pictures can sometimes distort things. 10 week turn around? You can't get anything tanned in that amount of time let alone mounted.

I worked with a taxidermist and it does take a long time to make any mount perfect.

Bottom like is it's cool, the OP didn't do the work so why bash him, if someone doesn't like the finished product then use it as a lesson and dont take yours to the Taxi who did it....still a cool ol' bear IMHO

cool mount for sure but if it has no teeth or very few why do an open mouth? I always like the closed mouth mounts on black bears but thats just me.

Too bad this site is so opinionated now, I cant imagine all the cool stuff people decide to not share because of threads like this.

You are right. Everyone has their own opinions about mounts.

And this one is one of the dumbest looking cats I have seen. Who has ever seen a chubby faced bobcat?

And this cougar......... This is a joke right? I never knew they had Chinese cougars?

I guess you have never had the chance to hold a good number of bobcats in your hands. From someone who traps bobcat and gets too see more than the average person that is what a mature bobcats head is like. Now if it was a young cat I would have to agree with you but it is not a young cat.

The cougar looks fine to me but do to lack of experience with them so I am not the best judge.

Now the bear in the pic's I am not going to say anything except I would not be a repeat customer

In the end taxidermy is art and each taxi has a different interpretation. In the end if you like that taxi's work you use him/her if not use the one that fits the style you are looking for

Digger you are right to say "if you ask...be prepared for all kinds of answers".It does look a little off, but with photos we can be wrong. My personal experience is ,take lots off pictures and lots of measurements.Always carry a small tape and camera.Record nose to eye, between ears distance, between eyes and all that would help the taxidermist to give you the proper mount. And yes it can be tanned in a short time.Tanners take a long time because there are behind on their work, and not because it takes a year to tan it.And if the guy that pays is happy.....Very nice coat. And Digger i did not get the draw for the dall.Next year i will give it a try. This year going for another stone.

I didnt know bears smiled so much when they had there paw chopped off and the ears look like they have been pushed forward to look like a rabbitt i wouldnt use that guy again... oh and only ten weeks shows the quality because he has all the time in the world because nobody else wants beautiful animals turned into a pile of nasty scat
