Great buck, fireguy. My kids and I were admiring it when I picked up my tanned bear hide from Harley a couple weeks ago. Very nice mount. Congrats and thanks for posting.

The story is kinda boring, no long backpack trip, no epic hike, no long hard hunt but I can share when I get home and have a few min

Those antlers look like their growing over his eyes. I feel bad saying that as I just bashed another guys pictures about his black bear. Maybe it's the angle of the photo but the antlers don't look right and seem to be sitting too low.

Just to make a short story long...

In 2010 I didn't have much time to hunt at all, in fact my total hunting time was about 4 or 5 hours of hunting. I was in my first year of running my own buisness and had a lot on the go so hunting had to be on the back burner. I got one day to go try and get a muley so as it was late early november I decided to go to a spot that I have hunted for the last 20 years and had a lot of luck. After a quad ride in I started to hike up a ridge and as I have hunted the area lots I knew that right at the top of the ridge there usually was at least one deer that would try and give me the slip. I inched my way up to the top, nothing... Moved a little more and saw a deer. Up with the rifle, whitetail, buck, safety off and I had a nice little four point whitetail down.

I knew that my time was limited so I delt with the whittail and went for a hike for a bit to see if I could connect on a muley but had no luck. After a long drag downhill and over a bunch of ugly logs I got him to a spot where I could get my quad into and loaded him up and drove home. That was it for muley's, I knew I didn't have time to hunt for the rest of the rifle season and I had taken my whitetail buck so I would have to wait till archery season opened on the 25th of november to hunt again.

Archery season started but I had to work the opener, no big deal, the weekend was coming and there was snow and the deer were moving, I was looking forward to getting out there with my crossbow. The thursday before the first weekend of archery season i had a mid morning job so I was killing some time waiting to go for my 10 am appointment. At about 9, I got a call and the issue, whatever it was had been taken care of so my job was cancelled. As I didn't have anything else on the books, I figured I would go for a hike, I already had my crossbow with me as I had been shooting it earlier in the day, I figured I would do some scouting for the weekend and see what I could see.

After about a half hour of hiking I started getting into deer, tracks everywhere and lots of deer running around. I had a little two point make a break for it with a doe and I figured I would play around with it for a bit and see how close I could get, not wanting to shoot it but I figured I could at least have some fun.

The problem with being an owner operator is the phone never gets left behind and about then it rang. I am a plumber and on the other end was someone with a leak. They had shut the water off and would be home for a while so I told them to give me two hours and I would be there. The deer sign was good, I figured that my scouting mission had been a sucess and I would come back on the weekend so I started making my way back to my truck. As I had given myself lots of time to get to the job i figured a detour on the way out wouldn't hurt so I took a different way out.

Coming over a rise I noticed movement ahead, deer, buck, and a shooter to boot. 50 yards quartering away, a long shot but very makeable. he didn't know that I was there at all and he slowly walked out from behind a tree into a small opening giving me the shot I wanted. I let fly and heard the unmistakable sound of the arrow hitting the buck and he dissapeared behind another tree.

Quickly reload, I thought, trying to watch to see him come out from the other side of the tree. I had another arrow loaded but hadn't seen him come into view. Now my thoughts were that he had gone uphill, out of sight and I would have to track him down.

The next thing I see is a big buck sliding down the snow covered hillside in front of me, no tracking needed, he was done. My phone rings once again, this time my dad, he is hunting in a different spot with my nephew. I tell him I just shot a nice buck and ask him if he will give me a hand as I had a job to get to. With a little help from my dad, my brother and my nephew, we are able to get him out to the truck, they take him home and I head to work, I'm only about 45 min late but the client is a hunter and just wants to see pictures and hear the story.

Here is where it gets interesting, I'm looking at pictures of deer on the internet and find this one.

These pictures were posted by mark in february of 2010 and I shot him november of 2010, the same buck and that's how I found this site and have been having fun ever since.
