I'm looking for some intel on snow level and road conditions around Blue River. I want to do a bear hunt up there and am wondering if roads are open yet, snow level elevation, etc. More interested in the drainages EAST of the river. When would roads normally open up? Any info? Many thanks!

i would imagine that the snow levels are a little high still.

Snow levels in the northern half of the province are supposedly at 160%. There is some concern for flooding in the PG region should it remain cool and then warm up all at once later on. This link will give you the approximate snow levels and you can check back as it is updated periodically.

May want to bring something with tracks and skis. May long weekend last year the roads were plugged with snow, mud slides and avalanches.

Logged up the Shannon rd(near Avola) in the late 90's through Feb and Mar.
I'm not sure that area even hears about "Spring" until late May or June......

The snow bank "maze" around Blue River was kinda cool though.....for the first couple days....:-D

Drove the road two days ago lots of snow on the highway they where using a snow blower to cut straight sides, and you cant see most of the signs as they are covered with snow.

The high country recieved 2 meters of snow over the past 16 days!
4+ meter base in the high country, there's gonna be lots of water this spring!

i talked to a co worker in Mcbride yesterday, still 18" in her yard in the valley bottom along the river. She had to snowshoe into another property as the driveway is never ploughed during the winter.

Snow level = valley bottom

You'll be lookin' at the May Long before you will be getting anywhere but Valley bottom.

That's a lot of snow! Ok, no rush to get up there then.
