Had a friends see her first one of the year last week in the sea to sky area. All weekend its was 15 and sunny so I'm sure that got a few moving. Areas where I was on saturday the skunk cabbage was just starting to come out. Suppose the pouyr rain all week and be around 10 so that'll raise the snow line some then just need more nice sunny weather. Prolly a few weeks yet though.

Up here on the North Island, anywhere over 500' has 6"+ of snow and it goes up from there. More wet, cool weather this week will add to this amount.

Mainland is the same.

Unless we get a warm spring, it will be a bit later up here for the bears to come out in any numbers.

Cheers

I went ice fishing today with Anytail. The road into my bear spot has 4' of snow and the lake we fished has so much ice that the auger barely made it through.

It's still winter in bear country.

Another 6 weeks of hunting vids.

Slow down guys..... Every year is the same thing, Bears out yet? anyone head'n out? Bears out yet? I know it's been a long winter but just relax. Who wants to tag out in April? WTF are you going to hunt in May and June? then July is the official NO HUNTING month in B.C. which sucks, so your setting yourself up for another 3 month lull..... No Thanks. Take your time, go snoop around, do a few trips this spring and please select a good one!

Walked 18 k in the woods on Sunday, did not see a single pile - and where I am - they always leave their piles in the middle of the path. Kinda handy.

i totally agree with SHAKER, i wouldnt wanna tag out in april, last year i let 5bear walk cuz they werent 20 inch skull or bigger, but one was pretty close he was over 6 feet tall easily, but i have an 18 and 3/4 inch skull in my house right now and that over 6footer i let walk was only 50 yards away and his ears just didnt look as wide as my rugs ears do, so that boar got lucky and got the free pass, i have seen multipule bears that were over 20 inch skulls i missed one from about 320 yards a few years ago, but all the spots i have seen giant bears you cant getin to untill around or just before may long anways, so SHAKER is right just relax guys lots of time to find a nice bear still

Black bear hunting is new to me.
Not holding any hope for this Sunday, but heading out anyways. Using this early time to learn and scout. Gonna go out quite a few times, with early June being my big trip.

I cut this bear track on Sunday. The warm weekend must have made the den a little drippy.

About 5 years ago, my wife stepped out our front door. When she looked up the street a couple of houses away, she saw our cat stalking something in the shadows. Then it moved. It was an immature black bear (this was about 1:00am in the summer). She called to our cat who then stood up and acted like my wife had just blown her "stalk". The bear just kept on sauntering down the road. Not bothering anyone.

That was about a year before that cougar was circling the public pool, tha's located just off 207th, with the pool full of kids and parents. The RCMP ended up shooting the cougar because the CO couldn't get there for a few hours. He was tied up in Whistler.
When they did a necropsy, they found that it was sick, under weight and missing some teeth.

The pool is only a few minutes walk from my place.

I was talking to my wife about the cougar and she reminded me that it was about 10 odd years ago because the cat that we had at the time disappeared before we got the cat that we now have. The cat we have now is 8 years old.

I had lived in that neighborhood for years. It wasnt the first time a cougar had come. There was one back in 96 that was shot in Hammond Park...two blocks away.
