I Have Taken 4 all six Point ROOSEVELT out of there , The First one in 1979 and the last one in 2004 . They are Far and few in between , I have Heard them Buguleing In there a lot of times but they are fairly spookie.
there were a lot more of them back in the late 70's before they started all the Logging.

In the five days we hunted in Princeton, we saw 5 bulls taken, One of which was a very large 7x8.... There are some beautiful bulls out that way, I saw 2 bulls while I was there, no tag tho...

There's a good sized herd that was transplanted to the Sunshine Coast (both Sechelt and Powell River) as well, and maybe a small native population in Phillips Arm on the mainland.

And Pitt lake, McNab Creek and Indian arm.

One day we might even have an LEH elk hunt close to the lower mainland like they do in Sechelt.

Here is A Couple of Pictures of the Biggest one I took out of PRINCETON.
As you Can see it's A ROOSEVELT. The CO, even Checked the Tag at the Time And Remarked that it was one of the Largest Roosevelt Elk he'd seen in a long Time.

Sorry buddy but thats a Rocky Mountain, Not a Rosey. A rosey has different tines and the end of the main beam, It makes it look almost palmated, But thats a nice bull.
If that CO said it was a rosey' He should take the CORE again ;)

I don't care what the CO told you I know (as well as everyone else) 100% fact that those are Rocky Mountain elk, not Roosevelt Elk.

I know full well what a Roosevelt's Elk is and WHERE they live..
You are wrong on this one.
The Kootenays and Princeton are a long ways apart, there are different gene pools and and the Animals will react differently to these two climates, producing different coloration's as well as size..
Just like how you can find mulies in the Okanagan, that are Grey'er then Ghosts and then go to region 7 and find them with Brown coats, Different Climate can and will create different looks, But one things for sure... Princeton Bulls ARE Rocky Mountain Elk.

This sounds just like there are no grizzlies on VI, Roosie could migrate up from the casade range they don't don't need a passport at the border guys!! Nice looking elk Machinist

Nice looking elk Machinist Animals arent like people, Mabey with the acception for the wandering Grizzley, So if they are in a stable and comfortable environment they have no reeson to leave , But a Roosevelt's Elk is not going to Just start walking, for no reeson all the way to princeton. The bulls in princeton, ARE Rocky Mountain Elk, How many ways does it need to get spelled out for you... :-?
Another thing is, The link that Machinist Provided about the Roosevelts Elk is for an entirely different Area, Thus Creating different looks and size, I have seen Different variations of color and size just in the Elk we have here locally.
It has been said, Get It Through Your Head.!

Princeton elk are Rockies. The colouration and different antler configuration is due to inbreeding in a small herd. The same goes for the OK Mtn Park herd, where the antlers often have crowning and non-typical characteristics. The West Kootenays elk also have higher non-typical rates than the East Kootenays.

We need some transplants to introduce some new genes into these smaller herds.

Okay I have heard enough of the coffee shop hear say. How about some facts. Here is a link form the Ministry Website
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/wld/documents/statusrpts/b106.pdf

Its titled Status of Roosevelt Elk in British Columbia, March 2003. As many have said there are no elk in Princeton. I know scientists can be wrong but papers like this dont get published without accredited people in the field reviewing them and the paper makes no mention of Roosevelt elk in Princeton right now or in the past.

I hope this ends the debate about roosevelt Elk in princeton.
