Well it all started when vehicle after vehicle started pooring in to town on thursday morning. People from all over coming up to hunt for the 7 days of open moose season.
Hunting with my dad, and my buddy, we set out opening day. Hunted all day and no moose. My dad was alittle upset because he broke his streak of shooting a moose every opening day in the exact same meadow for 4 years in a row. Oh well, it wouldnt be as fun if we got them the first day all the time. 2nd day had us walking into another meadow from three different directions. The way i walked in i could here a bull in the swampy thick alder patches. I could here his antlers in the trees. But not owning a quad my group has put a no shooting zone in that swamp. I think it was a good idea. After i decided to not mess around in there i heard a gun shot fire off in the direction my dad was in. He had missed a small bull. It was a running shot and lots of aspen trees in between him and the moose. Atleast that was his story eh. This was deffinetly a spot that we were going to hunt again in a few days because there was a ton of sign. On the 3rd day we walked into a meadow that we always seem to leave for the 3rd day. It has always been loyal to us. Splitting up again me and my buddy walked in at the bottom of this meadow and my dad was going to walk into the top. We had just got to our standing location and i started to cow call. I did about 2 or 3 calls and waited for about 10 minutes. My buddy " pppsssssssss , theres a cow coming down" . I put the binos up and right away i could see horn. " It's a bull, wait for him to come in a bit more. " We were waiting for a good shot when right on his heels was another bull. Two young bulls coming to check it out. We hadnt set out standards on shooting a big bull so we picked the moose we were going to shoot and let fire. two shots two moose down. Walking up to them my buddys moose was still alive so he walked over to it and finished his job. This was first thing in the morning and we both looked at each other and said we got one long day ahead of us. Sure glad the old man was around. When we were up looking at the moose my dad goes look at this. On the ground was a peice of that blue paper towel, from the moose he got with his buddy last year. EXACT SAME SPOT. Crazy. anyways. heres somepics545

how far did you have to pack the quarters?

we had to pack the quarters 1.5 kms . when we finally started packing them out back and forth it ended up taking 3 hours. took a whole day to gut skin quarter and pack to the truck. Oh and swampdonkey, i have a brother named brad that looks like me. maybe thats who you thought i was. another guy posted sent me a private message saying he recognised my dad from years ago. i guess my dad had hired him as a summer student back 10 years ago or more. small world. pretty neat actually.

yah, the work sure begins when you pull the trigger doesn't it?makes the roasts taste better over the winter though, and the memories never fade[although pack is longer, the snow is deeper[even if there was none] ,the shot gets longer and the bulls get bigger]
