Hello I am a relatively new hunter looking to harvest my first moose in region 7a or 7b and I was curious as to which of the two would be a better choice depending if a guy was successful in the region A Leh or would a guy be better off driving up into the peace region. Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

Ok first off there is a stupid joke "rule" new guys/gals need to start with a joke.....:)

If you are successful in a leh in 7 a go hunting, ( I would suggest bull draw, better hunting window)

If un successful in the draw go north or west for more liberal moose harvest requirements

Brett sums it up well. They are both huge areas and require many years to learn. Mid August hunt is way different than an October hunt. Let your success in the LEH determine your direction. Beautiful country.

K joke it is then.

Why don't you ever see a Mexican olympic team?
Because any Mexican who can run , jump, or swim is already in the states

Is there any reason not to head into region 7/28 early October that a newer hunter should know about?2

Go to Giscome. There's a guy there that feeds his dogs moosemeat he has so much.

Without a LEH you are limited to shooting a calf starting October 10 or immature. That may be a big reason not to go. With a LEH ... go.

lots of wolf predation in 7-10, 7-11,7-12. slim pickens the last two years for deer and moose, hasn't effected the bears though

Is the peak or the rut in the omineca region generally the beginning of October?

my opinion is end of Sept after a couple days of heavy frost

Kinda depends on your hunt window too. I mean you can get the fun part done in the warmer fall months, but then you have to hustle to get it to a butcher shop because of the heat. I got my last year's LEH bull here in 7A on opening day(sept 10), but by the time I got it to the shop later in the day, it was 25 degrees Celcius. It was stressful, but I was ready for it because I knew the butcher would take it because he wasn't too busy, and his shop was close by. On the flip side, on a sucessful hunt a few years ago, I was turned away from butchers later in the season because they were too busy. Luckily I got into a shop after a few phone calls. Knowing that, i'd think twice about shooting game during the mid-october calf hunt here in 7A if it is warm enough outdoors to spoil meat. Especially around PG, where my experience comes from.

Just my thoughts.
