So for some odd reason, today there have been big numbers of migrating pintails and mallards passing through the valley where we live. They have been making short pit-stops at a secluded CRD swamp, then flying off to their next destination. And when they leave, they all fly directly over our house!
Until one unlucky drake mallard clipped the powerline and smashed into the ground.. he quickly tried to fly, but couldn't. Instead he chose to hide under a bush in the front yard out of sight.
My dad told me to call the SPCA... I though, hell! He's a migrator! I am going to save him myself! So I put on some runners and literally jumped on top of the bush he was hiding in and got a hold of him. Took him a minute or two to calm down, then I gave him a good examination only to find his wing was ruffled up, but should make full recovery.
My sister and I made the 600m walk through road and trails to the CRD swamp fence, jumped the fence (with the duck in my hands!), then made a 100m trek through prickles and stinging metal to get right to the waterbody. He was one happy duck once I let him go! :-D

My legs are still BURNING from all those prickles... but was it worth it?? Definately! I got to give back to nature (:
