Herring in Qualicum or Parksville

Just wondering if there would be herring off one of the marina docks in the Qualicum or Parksville areas that you could fish for? I am looking to take my 4 year old out and catch some bait for springs later on. Thanks for any input.

I spoke to my inlaws this morning and they had seen OODLES of seals and eagles in front of their place in Union Bay aswell as herring skiffs. First time this year.

the commercial opening should be happening soon if not now, maybe ill go down there and see if we can get any.
