Got a draw just north of you, I know winter can hang around a long time up there. Been an easy one so far but I can't see getting around much till mid may if your lucky

Fly into little ball and hike north or one of the lakes in the park, google earth will tell you plenty.

Watch out for the Crazies, I mean the Creykes. Personally would steer clear of flying into Buckley if you're sheep hunting.

So what if he did? Dont answer his question then.. Explain how you are supposed to know the area, if it is leh? As your asking for info on Spatsizi River...

Good luck Sae, Area looks nice on google, but have never been there..

Someone please give the guy a tip. We residents are only killing less than one third of our allocation in Edziza. So lighten up!

I have never hunted that area but there are some tremendous rams to be had. I believe you want to fly in to one of the lakes on the East side of Edziza (the southernmost one of two I believe) and there is a good horse trail up to the sheep country.

There are only two stone's ram on record over 50 inch, and one is from Edziza (Ice Mtn.).

If I had my maps handy I would name the lake. Perhaps someone else could help?!

ryanb

The reason for my comment is because when someone applies for a tag like Edziza without realizing whats involved I am skeptical as to them actually going, worsening the problem mentioned by 40incher, abysmal resident success. I will pm you some info.

I think the lake you are referring to is Mowdade... Should be a trail that leads up into the alpine and over to Buckley Lake.... The BC parks site should have more info on the trail... I know a few people who have done that hike, I'm not sure if it gets you into the sheepy areas or not.

I too am skeptical of people putting in for remote tags without doing any research (hence not even proper spelling in the original post). I hope the OP goes and is successful. As I don't think this area gets the resident pressure due to it's location. Maybe I'm a bit bitter about not getting drawn, but I didn't expect it as my 2nd choice.

Take a look around at some of the hiking websites to get an idea of what your getting into. There are quite a few who have done the hike I mentioned, they don't talk a whole lot about sheep but do mention some of the ranges trails and water sources.

Edziza is the Creykes area, Heidi's is further west.

Edit: Edziza is often referred to locally as Ice Mountain in reference to one of the previous comments.

This is partially incorrect, Heidi does indeed have a portion of edziza, mostly in the southern part.

This is an interesting comment. With the exception of one spring grizz tag, I've tried to fill every Leh I've ever won. Since I don't even know you and you seem to have intimate and incorrect knowledge about where I have and have not supposedly hunted perhaps you could introduce yourself.

ok guys relax i have every intention to use this tag , i have done plenty of research on this hunt and am fully aware of the trails . i was just hoping for insider info so i don't waste the tag on hunting the wrong area. you know if i hunt sheep north when all the sheep are south , raspberry pass looks like the spot to start as i have seen pics of sheep from guys that have hiked there , as for my spelling well i will be honest i was into the sauce , mostly from celebrating the leh win.

Nuttlude is a tough climb but it keeps you away from the Outfitter. Good thing to try and stay away from where he's at. He might turn a good hunt into a bad one. Or he may not? Less hikers that was too.

You've asked more questions about hunting spots than most people on here. Goats, grizz, sheep, elk, where, where, where and narry a post afterwards. Too funny.

Point was don't give a guy grief if you're the same guy who's been asking for info and haven't gone on the trips, LEH or otherwise. And if you've already burned a tag, don't stand on the soapbox.

Happy fishing!

Fly into Buckley in August, tell the outfitter you have a sheep tag and report back.

I did the hike from Buckley to Nuttlude last August though didn't find a single sheep... sorry I can't be of more help! I did come across 20+ goats (4 billies), 3 caribou, an arctic fox and a sow grizz with 3 cubs.

It was the most breathtaking country I've ever been lucky enough to travel through. Have a great trip!

No one is immune, hiker, hunter, business owner or otherwise. Not ruinning hunts either.

RCMP have been involved with this crew on multiple occasions. Seriously.

Well, the truth is starting to come out.

Don't go to Buckley (for sure) or Nuttlude (spp). Sounds like Mowdade is the one.

Why we residents keep info from our own, when the yanks are killing 90% of the ram allocation is beyond me!

C'mon boys, give the guy a solid tip. Then maybe, we will kill our rams without having to spot them with aircraft on a daily basis (as others might do). $40 grand per non-resident kill is not a small amount.

Although I have not hunted the area I would say stick to the top 1/3 of Edziza, and near Ice Mountain.

Skull Hunter

I have been into Buckley fishing a couple if times... I've flown out of both Dease Lake and Tatogga I think you could expect to pay around $1200-1500 round trip. The flight would be shorter from Telegraph Creek if you go to Buckley, but I have a feeling they may not be willing to fly residents in there during hunting season.

pickaspot
03-07-2012, 01:35 PM
I believe our flight into Buckley and out Nuttlude was a shade under $1500. About $700 each way plus taxes.

There were only 2 of us, but 3 or 4 could have fit in the plane for the same price. FYI we didn't run into the outfitter, though I have heard some tales...

Rbf was one of my favs in the past but he has come back as a bit of a fun sponge in his reincarnation.

The sheep threads and threads about some of the spots in the EK were epic! I'm sure we've hunted the same country, just funny when it comes up on here. I can picture the steam coming out of some of the locals ears ala bayou and a few of the other voyeurs that hunt sheep in the EK. Everybody seems to think they have 'secret spots' in the ek- if they only knew who was watching.

It's nice to see some hunters with Edziza experience shared some advice prior to your hunt. If this continues perhaps resident hunters will achieve our allocation of 3 rams per year once in a while.

Mt. Edziza has a history of very good genetics for horn growth, as can be seen. Nice rams!
