oh well it is what it is, what can the average person do. I commercial fish, so i see it as money from my pocket. To bad sporty, FN well thats a fight ur gonna loose. Commercial fisherman deal with the weather in the wrong time of year, be good for the sporty too lol.

If it aint silver or flat throw it back

I hope you're joking Barry! You wouldnt catch me dead out there on a day like today. Hali's are a fare weather fishery, otherwise you might spill your Lucky.

Well today was worse than yesterday weather wise.
A couple of sole a doggie and a 35-40 lb skate. Sure was hoping that skate was going to be a Hali. I don't think your to far off the mark waiting for the beer drinking nicer weather :)

I hope somebody got some Hali's this weekend.

Did you punch out the wings to make fake scallops? Your allowed one a day in the skate department.

By the way great thread Jim.

The skate lived to see another day JBear
I've heard the meat is good but the texture is "stringy". I've also heard they pee through their skin so you need to clean them asap. I don't know if either is true. How do you "punch out the wings"?

Just a quick highjack JP

Oak Bay Marine Group Reel Reports

Vancouver Island Overview

Halibut opened for retention on March 1st and local anglers were targeting the big flatfish rather than salmon. A fly over of our local area on Sunday showed approximately 110 boats fishing, but only 5 of them trolling for salmon! There were quite a few caught, with the largest one weighing 90 lbs

Dont worry Barry there were plenty of Luckys consumed, especially when we got home. I kill more deer than halibut so this was cause for celebration!

Love the old Peetz Piperdown, as long as there's not too many doggies around. Feel the burn!

A few more for the freezer. There were 5 of us on board and we caught these in about an hour before getting blown off the water. Would have liked to sit on that spot for another hour or two!

Nice pics. Now the whining:cry: I'm trying to figure out an easy way to administer residents getting more than the 2 day possession limit when they live off island. I know the answer would be to move there but I'm not leavin' the interior.
