Manning Park Moose

A yup just as the title says. Saw a beauty cow moose about 15 kms east of the lodge on the highway:) Dam near hit the ditch. Maybe a couple more years and we can hunt them closer to home!

They have mooved thru that area for years, I seen a nice bull near Sunday back in about 72 or3. And a 2 cow calf pairs around as far west as Skagget and the Big Slide in the 80s. Dont think theres much chance of a huntable population setting up home there tho.

I nearly hit one 6 years ago about 20 mins east of the east gate.

I used to live and work there, not many moose sighted during the summer and I spent a ton of time in the back country. Winter, they seem to migrate from the back of the Pasayten and other drainages towards the Hwy 3 corridor. Had a nice little bull in our yard one morning, nearly hit a cow at Eastgate.

I found a moose shed 10 min west of eastgate. also have seen moose tracks through out the mt. frosty trail. I think the sun-shine valley is really where good moose habitat starts.

I'd imagine moose have to more less "eke" out a living in valleys like skagit, west harrison, elaho, liloette river. really all the smaller, steeper valleys

In the hunting regs Manning Park is it's own management unit and there's no open season for anything in that unit.

Seen em on Sunday summit standinding in the water hole just before the brake check.

Eastgate and on is out of the park so good to go, have seen several moose in the area over the years.
