I'm new to moose hunting and just wondering (for my leh application)when do they usually rut? Early sept, october, or november like deer? I assume that hunting the rut provides the best response to calling. I'm looking at region 5.

Thanks guys

September 23 rd to October 20th ..Come to calls from September 20 to October 9 strong than taper off qwicklike.
Region 3 and 5
Pre-rut, rut and post rut.
Bulls are vocal and cows are vocal during the rut. Whaaaa wha ... Whaaa Wha ... Whaaaa Wha .. repeat about four times
Than rest and wait for half hour b4 trying again. Calf is higher pitch and longer .. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa like a baby crying.
Jel .. Go by water, ponds, wet meadows, streams, lakes and try above 4000 foot level on flat bench lands.
Hunt right away in the very early morning at daybreak that's when you'll see the most moose and will have all day to prepare the meat. Some fellas say hunt til ten thirty in the morning, take a break then back atter after lunch break til dark.

Can call bulls in from Sept 20 all the way to Oct 10th. (and on either side of that as well, but gets harder to do)

Peak is the last week of Sept-first week of Oct.

But call any time as you just never know.......

I think the 20th of oct. is pretty hopeful, I have found that I can usually call them from sept. 25 to oct 10 and sometimes till the 15th a little.

Mostly end Sept to mid Oct. 80% of cows are impregnated in the first rut. The second rut will kick in around end Oct to early Nov. Bulls will still come to calling though not as readily as the first rut. I took a bull in early Nov and it walked to me calling it. So I suggest calling from mid Sept to early Nov. Up north, the rut will be a little earlier.

That's bang on, certainly the best time.

Had them come in hot and bothered anywhere from the second week in September until the end of November.

according to previous studies in region 3,the vast majority{75-80%}of cows are bread between oct 1-9.bulls are hot and horny by the last week of september imo

Oct 7 is the peak of the rut...builds up to that point and diminishes after. If you are calling, which is the most productive method...this is definitely the time to hunt.

Last few days of September to mid October...though this year I called in a youngish bull on the 22nd...he came
in pretty eagerly on the cow call, but I can't be sure if he was a daily shaver yet or not! :-)
