View Full Version : Granby Muley

Four Point

The nights were cold, the days were very warm, the moon was like a big spotlight. We even got snow! We saw 20 mule deer does, 5 whitetail does, 2 bull moose, 10 grouse, 1 coyote, 1 really cool bobcat, and 2 very aggressive owls. The whole trip we only saw 2 bucks both muley 4 points. Now you have all the facts. Our hunting party of 4 had 4 days to hunt the Granby. We loved this end of the world because of the limited number of hunters. This year Pope and Talbot had logged the crap out of the whole valley. Everything had changed. We saw very few deer in the cutblocks. Most of the animals we saw was when we were hunting thru the timber. Whether it was high or low on the mountain it didn't seem to matter. Remember we only saw 2 bucks! So what we were seeing were does. Had a lot of fun calling in a bull moose at one of the small lakes we found. Scared the hell out of my son. Pretty funny. We decided to hunt this mountain top that was approximately a 4 kms hike from camp. Two guys left via truck to the other side to set up for the push. We took over 3 hours at hunting speed to get to the top. Man was it hot. Had to go take a look over the top. In this last little knoll was where this buck was bedded. I turned around and he was moving. 4 big muley bounds and he would be gone. A quick shot, scope on 3 power from hunting in the timber, didn't seem to slow him down. Thru another 180 gr in there, and down he went. Everything happened so fast. Three hours of hiking and hunting for 10 seconds of pure adrenalin rush. Thats huntin. Lucky for us we have an idea of where alot of the old spur and skidder trails are. Within the hour the deer was gutted and we had marked off a trail down to the road. Now the drag begins during the hottest part of the day. Ahhh the sweet smell of muley and sweat. The Granby gives up another one.Good huntin.

That is one very nice buck! OOOEEE! Makes me wonder why I hunt on the coast! Always wanted to go up the Granby. Maybe in a two or three years after the buck you didn't get has fattened up on new growth in all those cuts.

Beauty buck, nice and tall...Congrats

They may have logged up there a lot, but give it 3 years and there will be so much more forage that there will be a lot more game running around, and probably all fat ones !!!

We loved this end of the world because of the limited number of hunters.

I hope you enjoyed the lack of hunters becuase after posting that on the net I am sure there will be a lot more next year.

Great buck, would drop him in a second.
