For those who wanted to see the owl that I was cleaning up in the other thread here he is..

I used Methyl Hydrate and cotton pads to clean the feathers, worked great.

The mount is 25 ish years old, it is a screech owl as outlined in the Permit

Cool little guy! I'll have to try that trick with Dad's old ringneck mount and see if I can revive it to it's former glory.

Thanks for sharing the pic. :)

Them 'lil buggars are kewl.
Glad the cleansing went well.

Did the feathers lay well afterwards or did the get rumpled/rough looking?

The feathers hardly disturbed at all, i went with the grain of course, the ones that did get shifted around were easily redistributed with a little blowing and preening with a toothbrush.

Keeping on top of them is the best solution but your right on with you cleaning technique.... Simple Windex on a very soft rag works well too.... Don't get the feathers wet though. This Barred owl hangs in my shop full time and at least once a month ALL my mounts get hit lightly with compressed air to keep them dust free!

Copy that!
Get it of before it 'sets up' and becomes grime.
