Can't wait for my grizz draw results. That will be the deciding factor as to ware I go to throw arrows. I'd love to get a G bear with my bow. If no draw. Maybe the usual chilliwack black and one on the north end of Mr Vancouvers island. My deep freeze is already showing me the bottom. Any one have input on a proven G- bear braod head.

I have my sights set on a huge old cinnamon boar that refused to get off the road in front of me last August while quadding. He just kept walking and looking over his shoulder as I followed 50 feet or so behind for a minute or so. I think he'll be up and about sometime late April based on the snow level.....

It seems BC is getting pounded with snow as of late. I don't think its going to be early as some people are predicting. Hopefully winter wont hold on for so long as it did last year. I will be commencing my Black bear hunt only after the first week of May.

does all that snow mean that the bears will end up hibernating for a longer period of time?

how do you determine approximately when they will start coming out of hibernation?

Yup, more snow means colder temperatures which means a longer hibernation. You will get some early risers.

Wait till there is some green up in the woods- south facing slopes are best. Look for grass, clover, dandelions.

Usually the beginning of May I will start looking up around here.

bears come out all through the winter for a snack (weather permitting)....they are not true hibernators....if the winter is weak they venture out more frequently, therefore are not very starved and not too motivated to come out in the spring - especially if the spring weather is sucks.....if the winter is tough they dont snack as much through the season, are more starved and will come out in full force once the weather turns and food is more available.

so was this winter considered a weak one or a strong one?

Mild winter in Region 6 except for 1 week. But lots of snow! Could make for some good hunting this spring!

i will be out first nice day in april...it is so nice to be out.....bears are somewhat like humans; we all like nice weather, lots of rest, leisure and full tummies of course.

Here's a video of a bear that came out around my trail cam last year. I was set up on a winter killed deer that was keeping some lynx fed. He looks pretty chubby for an early spring bear.
