About a week ago, Bowhunterbruce started a thread asking why we haven't been seeing any dead wolves lately. I replied to his question by suggesting we get together and head out into region 3 for a look around. After a couple PM's and a phone call last night, we decided to meet at 6am this morning and head out. We didn't find any wolf sign, but managed to see a few critters on the winter range. Here are some pics and notes from our outing.

About five minutes after leaving the pavement in Westwold, we spotted two healthy coyotes. Unfortunately they were on private land. A few minutes later, we spotted a couple of mulw does down along the creek bed.

The birds of prey were out in full force this morning.

Apparently a few mulw deer managed to avoid being slaughtered during the lengthy Region 3 GOS.

There was likely a bigger buck over the hill, but we didn't see it

We spotted 6 coyotes in total today. Unfortunately all were either on private land or too far away for my .222. These aren't great pictures - but that's what you get zoomed in 140 times.

Bowhunterbruce spotted this snowy owl. I snapped a ton of pics. This was the best of the bunch. The grey light plus the need to zoom resulted in a grainy picture of a beautiful bird.

We spotted a cow and calf moose near Corbett Lake, but didn't stop to take their picture. All in all, a good day and I'm inspired to start hunting 'yotes again in the near future. Thanks, Bruce! I really enjoyed the day. Let's get out again soon!

it was a pretty good day for seeing alot of different critters thats for sure.
wierd thing about just about every dawg we saw, they were all on the run as though everyone of them had been shot at many times before.
pretty well everywhere we went we hardly had any snow to speak of,just watch out for ditchs that are level with the roads with the white stuff.
if you hesitate will make for a bad day.!! good thing i hit the gas and not the brake huh.

something like "i'm glad your driving"
ha,nuf said on that topic.lol

Thanks, Dana. It was a great spot by Bruce. I probably snapped a dozen pics of the owl to get one that looked decent.

Some great photos there Coach. Really like the ones of the birds. Any of those bucks would be a good prospect for one of your kids next season.

I knew i'd see some pictures, too bad no yotes hit the dirt. I was working away today thinking how much better it would be out on the back roads!

Thanks, Tikka. There were actually only the two bucks, but I snapped lots of pics. And definitely either one would be great for the kids next season. I was laughing with Bruce about the fact I never spot those "squeaker" 4 points during the last desperate days of the season. The way they kept looking over the hill behind them, I'm sure there were more deer on the other side.

Soon, buddy! The gun's ready and I picked up an electronic caller. Even at 800 yards, it got that coyote's attention out on the lake. Let me know when you're free to go.

Thanks, Jason. Strange year. None of them have turned white either. Must be the lack of snow. :-D

Moose should have dropped by now. Whitetails are likely in the process. Should be a few more weeks for the mulw's.

Not all the bulls have shed yet. Last week I saw this little guy still packin'. As you can see from all the bark on his head, he's workin' at trying to knock them off.

Great pics, all of you. Esp like the snowy owl, the baldies in the storm, the nice little prospect bucks, and Dana's moose pic. Funny how the head-on shot of the moose almost completely hides the antlers.
