Some Jessie pics 2011-12

Jessie is 81/2 this season and really hit her stride in a variety of hunts----she handled the whole show for me this year now that I've had to retire Jake. She even went out for wavies in a hurricane force NW'er with her Dad. She was a bit intimidated for a while by the force and sound of the wind but she got the job done and I couldn't have retrieved any of those birds without her. On pheasants, both here and in Alberta, she was deadly , both in locating and in marking/retrieving the downed birds. Some intro pics first.

Then she got after the ducks---on sunny westerly days on the foreshore, in the dark of a thick night flight oatfield, and the slush and ice of a rising tide on the frozen marsh.

These were released, not wild, birds but the hunt had a wild feel to it. We had to hunt hard each afternoon to find our birds, covering a lot of ground. I would say it was a better hunt than going into a S. Dakota field where you know there are several dozen (or hundred ) birds there. In all the scouting we did for geese we only saw what I thought were wild pheasants once.

They were Adam--- all the mallards we shot in that last freeze-up week were big, red-leg northerns .

Thanks. She's a great hunter---she blossomed late b/c I always took Jake (chocolate and 3 yrs. older ) but I had to retire him last year and she has really blossomed ( with a major improvement in her marking abilities). I always could see that she had a great nose and desire to retrieve so I'm glad she got her chance before she too became too old--turns out she's just as good as he was. Here's few pics of the old boy just to pass the day.

great photos bob, I sure wish we stayed in the blinds for another hour on opening day for the rest of those geese coming in. I didnt get out bird hunting to much this year but did manage to get some good footage on closing day for ducks. I just need to get them off my iphone and onto here. can i e-mail someone a video to post?
