So i bought a trail cam, had this spot in mind for a while! Set it up a weel used deer trail. The first 3 days only 3 pics, all at night and none worked out. :-( . Sooo i packpacked a load of apples in there and lo-and-behold, 107 pics in 3 days. heres a few, if i cant get them to post here there in the gallery. (Note the bucks seemed to own the spot until the apples were gone, then they never came back!) About half of the pics were in the day.

Question re. trail-cams
I'm looking at using a trail-cam as part of a security system at my cabin.
I'm looking at the models that use the infra red for pictures in the dark.
If I was to set one up inside my cabin in the peak of the ceiling pointing
towards the entrance door would an intruder be able to see the infra red
of the camera while it is taking a photo at night? The peak to the floor is about 24 ft./8 m.
Thank You

Get a browning from Walmart.

Its 2.1 MP, it cost $130 and you can get an SD memory chip for 30 bucks at london drugs thatll do you for 500-600 pics.

Just got my cam's pics from the last few days - only does so far though!

No you cannot see infrared flashes with the human eye.

I saw one in Hub sports for $159, i think it was called moulrie, i would get it there instead of wally world myself. Bruno would it not be better to mount it ouside yout front door so you could possibly get a plate number? Taking pictures of strangers breaking into your cabin may not be useful unless it is someone you know doing the B&E.

Thanks for the info,
The cabin is behind 2 locked gates, most of the people that break and enter are known to the police I just though a mug shot might be handy.
Thanks

I only post the interesting pics! I had 27 pics of deer in 2 days. My cam is the $180 Bushnell from wally-land! (trail-scout) Very simple to use! I was happy to see the bear had not returned! These suckers are so much fun i want a whole fleet of scouts working for me!

Very cool pics mark. I have the same model trail cam as you - have you ever returned to your cam and had it just sitting there off? I know, weird question, but I went to mine today to see the picture count, and it had turned itself off? wonder if I am doing something wrong when I turn it on everytime I replace the mem card?

In regard to apples - any certain kind? store bought? just pick up the ruined ones from orchards?

Thanks!

mark

Actually mine is the trail sentry, never turned itself off! Maybe your batts are low (dead) Mine has taken over 200 pics about half at night, batts are still working. Ive been just scrounging apples on the ground in orchards. No idea what kind (red) Put a salt block out there today!!!

Hey Mark, I've got a whitetail tag in my wallet if you want to put something together. ;) Cool pictures, the last little four point looks alright, looks like you are getting a fair bit of action. By the way how did the deer hunt go with the girlfriend ?

Funny you guys asked that had too change em tonight. Got about 300 pics from the first set, about half at night (uses flash) Major bummer cuz the batts died right after the nice mulies started showing up, and were dead for the last 2 days!

had nearly 60 pics of deer lots of lil whitey bucks, not 1 mulie doe yet. That big pile of brush to the left of the buck is my ground blind (about a 15-20 yard shot)

Ya you guys are used to seeing blacktails, I think my GF can have him, I should be able to do better around here i hope!

Oh ya, forgot to mention. Im so dam addicted to this thing i went out and bought another one yesterday. Yes its already in action, on a hot trail, with a few apples in front! One day im gonna have a fleet of these working for me!

Looks like the word is getting around. Great looking bucks Mark!! So how long can you hold out before you have to go get one ? Interesting that now you're starting to get muley's instead of the whitetails as earlier.

Well guys i have no new great pics to show you. The mulie bucks have not returned. The whities are there constantly, about 3 little bucks and 5 or 6 does. Much to my dismay, some hunters have found my spot. 2 guys walked right up on the deer while feeding (within 1 minute) right after i stocked it with apples, ya can see a smile on the guys face!. They also returned again today. I thought i had a spot where nobody would find, but it goes to show some guys do hike the steep bush. On a side note they didnt seem to notice the blind or the camera!

you should kinda hint to the hunters you have hunted this spot for many years, and when you go to check your cam do you ever walk up on any of these deer?

Well hell, it's not like he downloaded a map for us to get there did he?

Mark, how's the weather down there? I took my kid out today, spotted two three point putting up a good fight and saw a 150ish four point who could give a damn that we were there.

Hey mark , great pictures keep'em coming. What kind of batteries do those camera's run off.?

mark
10-31-2006, 10:10 PM
Uses 4 D's. I get about 600 pics from energizers, 380 pics from dollar store everedys! I realized the trick is to put the food away from the cam a bit, or 1 doe will stand there and you get 150 pics of her. (saves battery life )
